Pertussis Vaccine for adults????
A friend who works in a hospital out of state told me that new mothers are now getting the shot before being discharged. I have seen the scary commercials on TV..but never have inquired about getting it..just assumed my doc. would advise me too.
Has anyone gotten it after giving birth?

My husband and I both got it before I was discharged and my parents got it a few months after DS was born at a health fair at ST Catherines.

I am going to call my internist. It makes me wonder about my babysitter and day care providers....do you ask them? Is it crazy to? What about the other kids that they spend the day with?

Pertussis Vaccine for adults????
DDs pediatrician pretty much insisted that DH, grandparents and myself have it.
We all got it a few months ago.

Im preggo with my second and my obgyn wants me to get it before I give birth. Some studies show that it could benefit the baby.
My daycare does not require the teachers to get the shot. I asked.

I asked my doc just shrugged. The pediatrician also just shrugged it off. As did my OB and her ENT. So no. I won't be getting it. They said, if you get sick, see a doctor and stay away from your child. Something I already do, so.. meh
Could be also because AJ is 4 and I get seriously pissy about useless shots and medical media mania. Give me a good solid scientific reason and I'll consider it. Otherwise, no. Which means I won't be giving my daughter the guardasil shot, our family doesn't get the flu shot and we didnt get the H1N1 shot even tho both my daughter and I got it.

Yes, we all got it (grandparents included). My nephew had pertussis several years ago and it was absolutely terrifying - I hope I never have to witness another child suffer like that.

I was given the shot on discharge and when we took DD to the pediatrician week 1 they gave it to him also.

They offered it to me right before they discharged me from the hospital. I think that's pretty standard now. DH and caregivers have to go to their primary care physician to get it.

I was offered it right after I gave birth. At that point, I just said why the hell not. Dh got his from his doc when we came home from hospital.

I got offered it but declined. I was BF and I get very scared about getting any type of vaccine while PG or BF. Once I stop BF, I will get it.
My DH got it a while ago since he is a teacher.

Yes my OBGYN recommended parents, grandparents with direct contact with a baby should be vaccinated ~ My hubby was vaccinated a couple of weeks before my daughter was born and I was vaccinated a couple hrs after my daughter was born, both grandmother's got it as well.

No one said anything to me at the hospital, when DD had hers done at a few months old I also went and saw my Dr (for other reasons) and mentioned it to him. I got it. It was a very painful vaccine!

I didn't find it painful at all, but then again I had it done right after giving birth so it was like nothing compared to that pain!

I will be getting one as well as my husband and grandparents.
With NO drama, one of the reasons is so many people are choosing not to vaccinate, its becoming much more prevalent. The reccomendation is to have those who are exposed to the baby get the vaccines untill the baby can get the vaccine and be protected.

I got it in the hospital and my dh got it before i had the baby. We asked all our parents to get it. DH's dr told him that it was important for adults to get it and it was becoming a big issue in suffolk county and they already had a child die from it (this was a year ago). Our parents internists said the same (about the importance).
