BTDT c-section moms who had toddlers at home.

How long did it take for you to be able to pick up your toddler again? How did you put them in their high chair, car seat, just hold them?

i didnt pick up my 22 month old until around 8 wks or more....she would climb into her fisher price booster seat that is attached to our dining room chairs (not a fan of high chairs so i dont have one), i didnt drive for a while so i didnt have to pick her up to put her into the car seat and as for just holding them i would tell her to come to the couch with me and we would hold hands to the couch and i would hold her in my lap.....there were a couple of times where she was crying or upset and that was difficult but i would just take her to a place where i could sit and hold her to console her.....it was difficult at times but it worked and dd is just fine no long term effects lolChat Icon

eh ........about a week.

How do you NOT pick up a 2 year old asking for you? Well, I at least had zero will to say no - so I just sucked it up.

I think for about a month.

I would just get down on the floor to hug him or hug him sitting down on the couch, but I avoiding real lifting like bathing, carseats, highchairs for about a month.

I let him eat at the coffee table on a little stool and DH was responsible for baths.

This is how I feel. I'm hoping after a week or so I will be able to.

Re: BTDT c-section moms who had toddlers at home.

It was a while.....at least 6 weeks. The only time I needed to pick her up was to get her in her crib for naps. I used to put a chair in front of her crib and pick her up onto my lap and then up into the crib. That way I didn't need to use my stomach muscles. Other than that i held her sitting down.

Had DS on Tues. Went home on Sat. Didn't lift the boys for maybe 4-5 days after that. It's hard not to lift when you have toddlers begging for mommy to pick them up.

12 days post CS and I still haven't picked up the twins! DH took two weeks off do he's been picking them up for the most part. Once he goes back to work, I'm on my own with the twins and the baby. I'll have no choice but to pick them up.

Re: BTDT c-section moms who had toddlers at home.

I have no idea how I will NOT pick up my son. I'm the one who cares for him in the middle of the night if he wakes crying. I will have no will power at that point to NOT pick him up.

He will be old enough (I hope) to explain to that I can't pick him up until my booboo gets better, but that will only work during the day. At night, he just wants/needs to be consoled.

He'll also be going to preschool, so I'll have to help him in and out of my truck.

Re: BTDT c-section moms who had toddlers at home.

we taught John how to get in and out of his carseat by himself.. he climbs on his chair.. no hight chair.. he'll be almost 3 when the baby is born so he's a little more independant..

but have your DH pick him up and give him to you!! that would be better than you bending over and lifting him.

this made me realize we should teach Jack how to get into the carseat on his own... he already gets into his highchair alone.

he will be out of the crib before the baby is born so into/out of the bed wont be an issue.

man, it is going to be HARD not scooping him up Chat Icon

At the hospital. Woops!
Got in trouble by my family. My 2 yr old wanted to see the fish in the waiting room. Day 3 and I took him b.c he hasn't seen me and wanted only me.
He asked to pick him up and I did. After that probably a week. It's hard not to. He was only 25 months at the time.

i should have clarified - it is the graco blossom - there is a booster seat that pulls right up to the table (like a regular chair) so he climbs into that and eats at the table with us Chat Icon its a three-in-1 highchair Chat Icon

Re: BTDT c-section moms who had toddlers at home.

DS was only 10.5 months when his brother was born so it was hard bc he was a baby himself & not crawling or walking yet. I did not pick him up from sitting position until about 2 weeks after. I did however carry I'm & pick him up if he was standing on the couch or in someone's lap within 5 days of my section. I had my mom here ith me so she did the majority of lifting & I would do the buckling into cars eat, tucking into crib.
