Lovenox Ladies, breastfeeding Q
Hi Ladies,
I have been on Levenox throughout my pregnancy and will be on it 6 weeks after I give birth just found out from my high risk dr that I can breastfeed. Are you ladies being told the same thing? What are your thoughts and are you going to breastfeed?
my prior experience: and what I was told from a different ob/hospital
with my son (had him 4 yrs ago) and I was hospitalized with a DVT in my left leg and I was on Levenox and them coumadin when I left hospital ~ I pumped while in the hospital and the nurses told me I could not take the milk home to my son because it went bad from the Lovenox ~ so I panicked after I left the hospital and did not breastfeed (although I was told it was ok while on coumadin from prior OB/St. Charles was told there is no significant studies that it is bad and my gut instinct said no) so they dumped the milk and I stopped breastfeeding. My HR OB tells me the milk did not go bad from the Lovenox that is probably went bad because they did not refrigerate it...uggggghhhh so frustrating that I had good milk and because someone didn't do there job they blamed it on my meds. so angry it makes me.
Thanks for your thoughts & what have you ladies decided to do and what were you told.

I was on lovenox for both my ds and dd and again with this one. I nursed both kids starting literally at birth. I was told it was perfectly fine. I had to take it pp as well and my ped and ob both ok'd nursing on it.

I breastfed all three kids while on lovenox. If you can take it during pregnancy, why wouldn't you be able to breastfeed while on it?

Thank you ~ When I threw a DVT after my son was born the (he was only 3 weeks old) I was in the hospital pumping and then I was told they had to discard my milk because the Levenox made it bad/sour. When talking with my HR OBGYN (new dr/new hospital) She asked if I was breastfeeding ~ I told her what St. Charles nurses said to me and she said no way Levenox did that ~ they probably never put them in the refrigerator. So I was under the impression all this time that I couldn't....

I was on lovenox and I was told I could BF even though I decided not to.
Coumadin might be different so check with that. I stayed on the Lovenox instead of switching because Coumadin is very unstable in your body and you need constant blood tests.

i only had to stay on lovenox for 6w post partum but my DD nursed (not exclusively cause i had poor supply relating to a horrible delivery) and took pumped milk without any issues. ive never even heard of it making milk sour and it def had no ill effects on the little milk that i had. DD had no problem at all. good luck!!
