BTDT-ladies who went from breastfeeding to formula.
At what age did you make the switch? How did it go and do you have any tips? I do plan to still breastfeed when Im home but I plan to go back to work in a couple of weeks and pumping takes too long and I only get about 3 oz per session which DS goes through in a feeding and is still hungry. I want to use formula for certain times like when DH is at home with DS during the day or if I have to run out with DS to run errands. etc. but if Im home I will breast feed. thanks!

I supplement with formula and my DS took to bottles and formula very easy. He started at about 3 weeks. Hopefully yours will adjust to the change quickly also! Just keep pu,ping and BF when you can so your supply doesn't decrease

He took to the bottle like a champ, I don't even think he notices the difference!

but did you just switch over completely or did you mix in some breast milk with formula?

Ohhh I didn't get your question the first time. I just gave him a bottle of straight formula, I actually had no idea you could mix the 2 together!!

Re: BTDT-ladies who went from breastfeeding to formula.
I mixed BM and formula when I was supplementing. At first tried just giving him a whole bottle of formula and he threw it up twice so I started mixing every bottle instead. Slowly over a few weeks the bottles became more and more formula (I was exclusively pumping and had cut back on some sessions). The transition went really smooth. Hope this helps!
ETA: We started supplementing around 5 weeks and he was fully transitioned by 7 weeks.

Re: BTDT-ladies who went from breastfeeding to formula.
I started supplementing when DD was 5 months. She did great. The first bottle I gave her was half bm/half formula. She guzzled it down super fast. She finished it and still seemed hungry, so I gave her 2 more ounces of just formula. She wrinkled her nose at it and swatted it away. I waited a minute and tried again, and she took it.
No issues at all after that.

Re: BTDT-ladies who went from breastfeeding to formula.
I started supplementing at around 7 months when I went back to work. DS did not take easily to it, he was fine with a bottle of breastmilk, but refused the formula. We slowly worked it in (just an ounce of formula into a full breastmilk bottle at first, then 1/3 formula, 2/3 milk, then 1/2 and 1/2, etc.) It took him about 3 weeks or so to take a full formula bottle. I also put a couple of drops of alcohol free vanilla into it at first and just phased that out (you can get it at Whole Foods).

Re: BTDT-ladies who went from breastfeeding to formula.
I always gave a bottle of formula at night 0- well DH did, and I pumped. I knew that I wanted my LO to be able to tolerate formula when I went back to work in case I couldn't pump enough. Got a combination of both until 3mths (6mths with number 2). I used gent lease with my first when I supplemented and newborn Enfamil with #2
