are you religious?

I definitely have a lot of faith but I'm not sure that I believe and agree with the doctrines of the catholic church.
so much that our daughter hasn't even been baptized becasue we are both so unsure of where we stand in terms of picking a religion.

I was once very religous, but am no longer. I do consider myself spirtual.

Re: are you religious?

Not at all - I wasn't raised any specific religion. My father's family is Jewish and my mom's is I think Presbyterian. But neither side really practices either religion anymore.

We are very spiritual, believe in God but not man made dogma such as dietary laws, etc.

We attend Unitarian services where they respect the validity of all religions. We are interfaith.

Edit for spelling

I tend to think more in level of observance. I am a somewhat observant Conservative Jew. I believe in g-d, and observe some of the laws of judaism, but certainly not all of them.

Religious means you follow the prescribed rules of a particular religion. Very few people today are really religious. Religion is not about picking and choosing which rules it's about subscribing and following all of them.

Spiritual is that you believe in a spiritual being, god, nature, can be monotheistic or polytheistic but you don't subscribe to the dogma, set of rules of one religion.

I'm not sure. I'm a hypocrite though. Both my kids were baptized because in the end it's just the way we do things. My husband is more religious than I am. We used to go to church every Sunday. Now we go sporadically.

I'm sending Joseph to Catholic school for kindergarten because it's full day. I'm pulling him out in 1st grade because I just can't send my kid to a school that has Crazy Sock & Hat day instead of Halloween.

I believe in myself. I believe things always work out somehow - no matter how hard it is to see at times. I believe in biology. I believe that something had to make the first push to make the big bang happen. I dont' know what that was.

Re: are you religious?

spiritual, but not religious.

ETA: I am agnostic, and the reason is I do not believe that dividing and classifying religion is helpful. Anything that segregates in such a way that wars can be waged for centuries just does not seem spiritual to meChat Icon JMHO

Re: are you religious?

I 110% believe in God.

I was raised Catholic, but more and more I'm finding myself questioning the church.

So, I guess as posted above...I'm very spiritual, but not "religious".

Re: are you religious?

I was raised Catholic and I practice no religion.
I believe in something - a higher being.
I believe in science and think that maybe this higher power is what initiated the big bang which gave us life as we know it now.

Personally, I believe that this higher power is infallible, human beings are fallible and religion created by humans cannot be the truth. Not trying to insult anyone - it's what I've come to believe.

Ditto.

I guess I'm a hypocrite too b/c I got married (reluctantly) in a catholic church...but it was out of tradition and respect for my DH's wishes. DH was his cousin's, a Msgr, first baptism over 30 years ago...and it was important to DH (and the family Chat Icon) that the Msgr marry us.

I have, again, reluctantly agreed to baptize our child (should we have one) again, b/c of tradition...

Re: are you religious?

I am still a practicing Catholic but I do a LOT of questioning of my church and my beliefs in it. I stay because it is so much a part of who I am and what I believe and I do believe in coming together as a community to celebrate mass. I also stay because I am not convinced that things can't change for the better and I feel like if all the people like me leave, there is little hope for change in the future.

I also think that one can pray anywhere Chat Icon
