Don't forget5 to have the statue blessed. Otherwise it is just a piece of plastic!

Re: Need help from Catholics re: burying Joseph to sell a house.

I thought it was St. Anthony. And you're supposed to bury him upside down in the corner of your property or something. I'd have to ask my mom to be sure though.

ETA: I thought it was St Anthony bc he is the saint of lost things or something, like you pray to him to help you find stuff. Hence finding a new owner...idk

Re: Need help from Catholics re: burying Joseph to sell a house.

So I think I will re-bury him.

The owners of the house are VERY jewish, so I dont see that they buried him.

But it seems like bad Karma to take joseph when he is not mine.

Right?

Or is it KArma that the dog found him, and he was meant to come with us???

I am catholic & while we were selling our home we buried St. Joseph. Once we moved we took him with us!

Same here. We actually buried him and that weekend we got an offer Chat Icon

Re: Need help from Catholics re: burying Joseph to sell a house.

When we sold our house we used St Joseph. There are instructions for how to bury him, he has to be head down, but I think he also has to face a certain direction. And when being buried, a prayer is said. When you sell, you dig him up and take him with you and he should be put in a place of honor at your new home. I think that is what I remember.

We had to buy 3 statues cause someone kept stealing the ones we had buried. Kept coming home to holes where we were burying him.

Re: Need help from Catholics re: burying Joseph to sell a house.

This thread definitely has super-glue Jesus potential, which is amazing.

Yes, this is a very popular tradition when people are trying to sell their home. My grammy and pop buried one in their yard at their house in St. James when they were selling... then, when it sold, they meant to dig him up and bring him with them and they forgot! Poor St. Joseph helped them sell and then got left there - he's still there! Everytime I pass by their old house I remember that story. This is an old usually catholic tradition. I think other forms of christianity might do this as well but I know it's most popular with catholics. my grandparents were irish catholic. I would re-bury him in the same spot so the owners know where it is when they hopefully remember to get him as they move!

Re: Need help from Catholics re: burying Joseph to sell a house.

Ok. So DH and I just talked about this.

There is NO way to know where the dog dug him up from. So we can't bury him the same spot.

But. We ARE going to re-bury him, face down, facing whatever way he is supposed to be buried.

As for the prayer? Holy hell. I think it's going to be the shema. Jesus was Jewish right? And a prayer is a prayer is a prayer. With respect to the Catholics and non Jews. As long as SOME prayer is said, and its said with respect, it's kosher ;)

But since Jesus was Jewish, I'm gonna assume Joseph won't mind.

That sounds good, an I am quite sure any prayer will do! It is very nice of you to rebury St. Joseph!

My Nana lived with us at the time and I think she did not want us to sell the house. So I secretly think she kept digging them up and getting rid of them. LOL.
We never said anything, but we would look where he was buried and he was always gone. We just kept rebuying and reburying. We did sell the house though once he was there for a while.
