Regular or Organic whole milk?

I started my DD on Organic milk, but it is costly and I am contsantly running to the store for it. I wish they sold gallons. Not everyone carries it.

Is it worth it?

*I* think it's worth it, but that's me. It does get pricey though. If it's not in the budget, look for milk that's marked "from cows not treated with growth hormone." Trader Joes and I think Stop N Shop carry it.

ive read that if you are going to do anything organic....milk should be it.

i buy at bj's in bulk and when i run out i usually buy stop and shop brand. ive heard that shoprite sells the gallons pretty cheap, but i dont have one near me so im not sure.

I try and stay as organic as possible for DD, but as you said sometimes it gets costly. However for me, milk is the one thing that is a must for organic. I buy the 3 packs at Costco & I buy a few since the milk stay good longer.

Waldbaums has it in gallons @ $5.39/gallon with card.

ShopRite also sells it in gallons @ $4.99/gallon.

I think it's a really personal thing. We only give my DS organic milk and he just turned 2. I like Horizon milk. I was buying it at BJ's but they haven't had it lately so I bought it at Waldbaums for $3.99 1/2 gallon.

Last week we were out of organic milk and DH went to Waldbaums to buy more and they didn't have any organic whole milk. Nothing. Not one single brand. He bought Tuscan whole milk. DS had 2 bottles of it and the next day had very loose, diarrhea like poopie. Only thing different was the milk. Not saying regular is bad, just that it's different and their little bodies get used to certain things.

That being said, my DH and I drink regular, non-organic milk.

I had never bought anything organic before DD was born, but I really believe that it's important for her to have organic milk. She drinks so much of it that it's worth it to me. We wait until the half gallons go on sale and then we buy a ton of them. They're good for a couple of months so you can stock up on them.

We don't really buy anything organic because it's expensive, but we do buy organic milk. It just makes me feel better. If I could, I'd buy organic meat too. But if you can't afford it, look for hormone-free milk, that's just as good

We only drink Organic milk. What's just as important to me is that it not be Ultra-pasturized. You will see A LOT of organic milk is ultra-pasturized and it has crazy long shelf dates. I won't buy that stuff, the ultra pasteurization process kills everything in the milk, including the beneficial stuff! Also grass fed milk tastes the best.

For us it is 100% worth it. I spend the $ and don't think twice - but, everyone feels differently about this question. You have to do what you are comfortable with.

I try to buy organic when possible with regards to fruit, meat, veggies ect... But organic milk is a must. We get DD organic valley whole milk. it was a well rated brand and we can get it at King Kullen or at Western Beef.

from a dietitian standpoint...they are both fine. As PP stated, make sure the milk is hormone free and antibiotic free - that is the biggest issue. Anything the cow eats will be processed by the liver prior to making milk...so pesticides on food are a non issues...

We try to get the boys organic when possible, but when we run out during the week, we just run to Dairy Barn and get regular.

Shop Rite has the cheapest price for organic.
$5 a gallon.

IMO, yes. we only give DS organic milk, cheese, yogurt etc.

We try to buy organic produce and meats for him but cost can be prohibitive

We just started too, we barely use organic but for milk I don't mind spending the extra $...Target sells it by the gallon.

IMO totally worth it. We go to Trader Joes and buy a gallon for $5.99

Shoprite just raised the price to $5.49 a gallon..its still the cheapest I have found. I use the $1 off coupon they send in the weekly flyers.

they do sell it in Gallons. we use Greenway.. it's in Pathmark and Waldbaums. the most INEXPENSIVE ive seen.

I just make sure it's hormone free- that is my main concern.
Most milk has the hormone free label on it now- even the store brands.

I think it is! You could try Trader Joe's RBST free milk as an alternative. The cows are not fed organic, but at least they are not pumped full of drugs

I buy FF milk from Bj's, Land O Lakes milk is

from rBST (artificial hormones) FREE cows.

$2.89 a gallon - fits my budget.

ps: giving my kids Fat Free milk since they

were 2 yrs old.

DH and I have never been good about eating healthy. BUT with Ds we try to buy as much organic as possible. We buy lot's of Stop and Shop Nature's Promise brand products. His cheese is all natural, I look at all labels and try to make sure it has as few ingredients as possible.
SO yes, it's very expensive but we buy organic milk.

i'd rather sacrifice a night out and know my child is getting whats best for him. It's worth it to me!
