Delivering the Placenta

A question for the BTDT ladies who had a vaginal delivery, how long after you delivered LO did you deliver the placenta? Did you have contractions still and knew when to push, etc? As I get farther along, these are the questions that come to my mind! Chat Icon

Re: Delivering the Placenta

yes, i still had contractions, i want to say I delivered it 10 minutes after the baby came out.

an excerpt from my birth story Chat Icon

They finished stitching me, took the baby, and then I delivered the placenta. I got a little nervous - they were tugging, but it wasn't budging...they pushed some pitocin into my IV and I ended up pushing it out myself with my next contraction. Let me tell you...that placenta thing....interesting. This may be TMI to some, but I find it hilarious. I pushed that thing out and if the Drs weren't gripping it for dear life, I would've shot it against the wall. That thing FLEW OUT. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Delivering the Placenta

It seems you never find out any goory details until you're pregnant, THEN of course everyone tells you the truth of pregnancy lol. Up until I found out I was pregnant I still thought the stork would come to deliver my baby Chat Icon

Re: Delivering the Placenta

Id say 5 mins or so after DD came out my OB told me to push again, lightly, to get the placenta. I wasnt having contractions at that point; I made myself push. It was weird bc I wasnt sure if I was doing it right since there was no urge to push LOL

I didn't even push it out...the md pulled on it while massaging my belly and it plopped out...a few minutes after delivery.

I had TWO placentas for the price of one!

Sticky little suckers, had to have surgery to remove them! They would not come out on their own!

My OB had both feet firmly planted on the ground and was pulling with two hands (think tug of rope) and it didn't budge. If it had come out then, he would have slammed into the wall behind him! Chat Icon

Same for both my deliveries. The contractions felt like a period cramp.

Same. I remember my dr. asking me to push a little and that was it.

Re: Delivering the Placenta

I'd say within 5-10 min after delivering my daughter. I don't remember contractions (though I'm sure I had them) I just remember intense relief once I delivered (the placenta).

Re: Delivering the Placenta

Within 5 minutes of delivering. I had a contraction to deliver it. I did it while they were doing the vitals on DC. Then they stitched me up, and I got to hold my babies. It was very fast.

Re: Delivering the Placenta

As soon as DS was out mine were gone.
I want to say it was about 10 minutes later that I delivered the placenta. It was weird. The only part that hurt is when my midwife was pushing on my tummy to make it come out. OUCH! But it didnt hurt at all when it came out. It was kinds squishy... only word I can think of lol.
They placed it next to my bed.. at like eye level between me and my mom and DH. So that was a little weird because it was in the middle of us lol

Re: Delivering the Placenta

I was so out of it once DS was finally out of me that I have no idea when/how the placenta came out. I have no recollection. I think my midwife pulled it out because I don't remember being told to push. I was a wreck.
