As to the OP-I give my kids organic milk. I have to buy about 4 gallons a week between regular and soy for my sairy allergic son. I also buy all their meat at whole foods(not necessarily organic but animal welfare rated and grass fed) and they mostly eat organic fruits and veggies. I would say 95% of their diet is organic.
I know my doctor doesn't reall believe in organic food. Not that he doesn't think that organic is better - he just doesnt think there is enough regulation of it to really make a difference.
It is a pretty popular opinion, and I agree with it - who knows what we are getting in the end.
I buy organic, but I often wonder if it is all a scam!

Organic.. but we are slowly moving them to almond milk and here's some of the reason why:
Today an average cow will produce 50,000 pounds of milk a year; fifty years ago the same cow would have produced 2,000 pounds. This is made possible by Bovine Growth Hormone (BGH), a genetically engineered drug that stimulates milk production. With udders working such overtime, mastitis and infected udders are common and treated with massive amounts of antibiotics. Despite this, infections are common and all milk contains the resulting red and white blood cells- but don’t worry, our government only allows one to one and a half million white blood cells (aka PUS cells) per milliliter of milk- about 1/30 of an ounce.
Milk is not good for your health. Milk has been linked to intestinal colic, irritation and bleeding, anemia, allergic reactions and salmonella. More ominous is the fear of viral contamination with bovine leukemia virus as well as the high levels of red and white blood cells. Even without all the dangerous additives, hormones, antibiotics and iodine used to clean the udders (even with organic varieties), cow milk is SO chock full of fat and cholesterol it is an unhealthy choice for anyone on earth, except for a calf.

but I think the problem comes from when people are judgmental about their choices...."why wouldn't you" mentallity is what is killing LIF and feeding into the "woman" stereo type".
Here is the information I found..take it for what it's worth...if you agree great..if not..thats fine too.. but we need to arm EACHOTHER with as much information as possible to HELP eachother be informed mothers!

Exactly! I find this in real life a lot too. Some people just can't express their own opinion without insulting the people who disagree. Its ridiculous.

Actually its very hard to get organic certification. So I absolutely believe when I see that organic label that the food is organic. I also don't feel pediatricians are the ones to advise ME about dietary needs/organic foods. There have been many times I have been WAY more knowledgable than my Dr regarding certain subjects. I'll leave the docterin to them, but do my own research when it comes to food. Hopefully its the right choice, as I think everyone on this thread hopes they are doing best by their children.

We didn't need to have it when we were young or our parents were young, etc. I think it was only in the 80's that the growth hormones just started being used in cows and the FDA approved them not til the 90's so there wasn't as much worry when we were growing up as there is now.

Truthfully you don't know what those long term effects those hormones will have on you. Girls are hitting puberty earlier and earlier. It's not about whose better, it's about what's best for you and your family. After all my research I only by organic. I try to stay away from processed foods. Now pretty much all our food is genetically modified. They never did any real studies before making them available and to top it off they don't label them.

I cannot tell you how grateful I am to what I have learned on LIF. It is such a wealth of information, mommies here are beyond brilliant, creative, genius, but the judgment puts an ugly brown stain on it all, and its sad.
I feel like we often don't know what we are saying is going to sound judgmental, and sometimes our own insecurities lead us to feel we are being judged. But I really hope most of us can get pasted all and share information, as there is no more powerful tool than that.
BTW, most doctors don't think there is any cause or reason to go organic. Because most doctors are scientists. And scientifically nothing beneficial is proven about organic food - at least not the science we have today.
Just know if you are making the choice to Organic, its not a scientific one.  but mommy instinct rules all!

Yes, we are the only species to drink milk as adults and we are the only species who regularly drinks the milk of another species! Sounds so gross! I still LOVE me some milk though lol
I am fearful of why we are becoming an antibiotic resistant society. Knowing how many antibiotics are pumped into the cows because of the sores they get from living on top of each other disgusts me. I don't think choosing organic has as much to do with parenting as it does to do with the milk.
Some people care about stuff like that some people don't. IMO it has little to do with being a mother.

that is what will keep our little girls little girls for a longer period.
No one should be made to feel badly for their choices. but to just blindly say "this is how I do and I don't care what you say" is just....I mean, what is that???

Yeah I have to agree with this.. I truly do not care one bit what you want to give you child.. BUT to say.. Im fine or I dont believe in it... there is scientific proof of what is in the milk and that it CAN be harmful..so to say you dont' believe in it or Im fine.....yes we are all fine thank goodness but the cancer I get in 15 years may have been preventable by taking these steps...or I wouldn't be resistant to my antibiotics or whatever it may be... kwim?
Just saying that we should be at least open to the research to make an informed decision..
