How do you get your LO to take these nasty smelling vitamins?

UGH- these poly vi flors smell HORRIBLE.
Horrendous.
I am not sure how they expect babies to take something that smells so vile!

My DD has gotten to the point where she just SEES the dropper coming at her and she freaks out- turns her head, won't open her mouth.
I have to literally FORCE it down her throat and she gags and spits and screams.
It's awful.

It's to a point where I sometimes avoid giving it to her- bad, I know, but I can't stand the battle- especially when DH isn't around to help.

Any tips on how you get your LO's to take it?
Can I mix it with something?

how old is she I started my DD on chewables that my Dr prescribed for her when she was almost 2 maybe you can talk to your dr about switching to chewables


otherwise vitamins can be mixed with anything small amout of juice wont dilute it

She is only 1 and has no teeth (well she is STARTING to get 1 tooth! )
I can't wait to switch...these liquid ones are horrendous!

We didn't give them vitamins. They eat a well balanced diet and now that DS is old enough he gets chewables. Say what you want but their bloodwork has always been perfect and they are both healthy and strong.

I think it's horrible stuff and I cannot imagine feeding that to my babies

Every morning I give ds oatmeal with some fruit. I put the vitamins in that and make sure it gets mixed into the first few bites (in case he doesn't finish the whole thing). I know they say to give it an hour before or after a meal, but I too couldn't get him to take it. My Ped actually told me to just put it in the food. He said it's better than not getting it at all HTH

bribed him with cookies (grahm cracker)
after a while he takes them no problem.

yeah too young still dont feel bad about no teeth yet my DD got her 1st one at 18 months and then they all came at once the poor thing but there is no reason why you cant add a little juice to it...

dd was the same way...my sisters twins took it like candy they sucked it down. one day my sister gave it her kids theirs and than gave dd hers and she took it the same way-and shes been good with it ever since.
can you pretend your taking them and than give them to her. sometimes that worked.
otherwise the dr said mix with formula or apple sauce.

Mixed in her oatmeal! She HATED taking it from the dropper, but as she got older she didn't mind so much.

With DS1 he loved them. He would totally suck the dropper dry to make sure he got every bit.

DS2 wasn't having it. The first 2x I gave it to him it was a da mn near wrestling match just to get him to open his mouth. Then his breath smelt like it and when he nursed so did my boobs. DISGUSTING.

Since then I put it in his oatmeal in the morning mixed with some fruit. Doesn't even know its there.

My kid, who is the pickiest eater in the world, mind you, freaking SUCKS them down!!! Gets all excited when he sees the dropper!!

how long has your DD been taking the vitamins?
My DD is same age as yours and no vitamins yet...just wondering if this will come at a 1 yr checkup?

I mix in her jar of fruit or her cereal.

I put the drops in his milk, he doesn't seem to notice, he thinks milk is disgusting anyway, and will only drink it if he's really thirsty after his nap.

Chewables are just the same thing with sugar and flavor aren't they?

The poly vi tastes like my vitamin does if I just chew it its gross, but if I don't take my vitamin, I really feel different.
