"are you sure you're not having twins?"
Why do people say this??? What is wrong with them - I just responded "That's a really mean thing to say" - it shut her up quick! Thanks for the Ego boost!

Re: "are you sure you're not having twins?"
Popping in from the parenting board . . .
I just had my DD 2 months ago and let me tell you, I heard this the entire time. That and a few people (including a doctor ) told me I must be having a BIG baby. That "big" baby turned out to be 6 lbs 13 oz, 19.5 in. Definintely not big by my standards!
I still don't understand why people say this. I just figure they feel the need to say "something" and that's all they can come up with. It's super annoying but try not to let it get to you.

You are awesome for saying that!
I feel so huge at 25 weeks, and hear it all the time. This is after being so small for the first 18-20 weeks and being told I was too small. People are just rude.

Re: "are you sure you're not having twins?"
My third pregnancy and during all three people said/say this to me. Its annoying...but both of my kids were over 10 pounds...which was more than my friend's twins put together.

Ugh... my 50 something year old cousin, who I haven't seen in awhile - AND who looks like she's having TRIPLETS, asked me that the other day.
I told my mom what she said and my mom said, "Did you ask her how many she's having?"

Re: "are you sure you're not having twins?"
People don't think before they speak! It's really annoying!!
I was getting just the opposite and it bothered me. I am pregnant with twins and I hate the people that say "you're small for twins". I want to shut them up so bad because I'm already carrying around 11 pounds of baby!!

Re: "are you sure you're not having twins?"
My MIL's boyfriend asked my friend that the other day. I could have died! She's 7 weeks behind me and he was like "Whoa! You are huge next to her! Are you having twins?" Seriously? She's also 4 inches shorter than me so she has less room to spread the bump out on. She laughed it off but I was so appalled. As an aside, my MIL runs a high risk office - you think he would know better from her what's appropriate and what isn't! He is such an idiot.

Re: "are you sure you're not having twins?"
It works the other way too. No one believes I am 36 weeks pregnant, they always comment on how small I am. The baby is measuring right on schedule, bigger than my first son, but people still comment.

I have been hearing this lately too, or wow I think your going to have the baby early, it doesn't bother me though, just means I have a pregnant belly lol, I don't think people mean it as you are overweight, just pregnant.

People think they are being funny, not realizing that it can hurt someones feelings or make them feel insecure. My last pregnancy I only gained 12 pounds and people STILL asked me if I was having twins/triplets. I would just
