The 4 of us are people that tend to get hot easily so during the day when we are home it's on 70-72 depending on how hot it is, working hours 75, night time 68.

72 at night (but we also sleep with our ceiling fan on) and 74 during the day when no one is home.

DH and I literally brawl over this every yearChat Icon One of the perks of him working overnights is, we can all be comfy at night.
I like it at 70-72 during the day and 68-69 at night. DH likes it between 66-67 ALL the time Chat Icon

Re: What temp do you keep your CAC on?

We have it at 70 all day/night. Sometimes I put in at 72, depends on my mood. I'm a SAHM so I keep it at whatever I feel i most comfortable for DS and I.

Re: What temp do you keep your CAC on?

So far we've kept it at 70-72 when we're in the house and 78 from 8:30-5:00 while we're both at work. By the time we get home it's 74. And by them time we're eating dinner it's down to 72.

This is our first year year wtih CAC so I'm not sure how it's going to effect the LIPA bill.

Re: What temp do you keep your CAC on?

76-78...when we hit 90-100 degree weather it goes to 74.
I can't imagine keeping my house at 68 degrees when it's that hot out - the change in temp is too shocking lol

We argue over this too! I try to keep it at 70-71. DH likes to keep it at 68-69.

See its our first year too and we had a CAC guy in and he said to keep it within a small degree change range that it doesn't make the unit work too much?!?!?!?

I don't really believe this if you are going to be out of the hosue for an extended period of time (like 6-8 hours). I will shut my CAC off and turn it back on when I get home. I find I use less electric this way believe it or not (I metered my system to verify).

See we've done this and I feel like our upstairs gets soooooo hot it takes forever it cool it down after it getting so hot...I think we're going to try it both ways and see how we do, although with the new baby coming I'm going to be home more than not!

first yr with CAC

I've been turning it on at 8 PM, and turning off at 7 AM

I leave it btwn 75-77 over night.

DH and I constantly argue about CAC, he keeps putting it on in the middle of the day, and I'm worried about the LIPA bill Chat Icon

73 all the time. If I know we are going to be out of the house all day, I'll push the temp up to 75-78.

Re: What temp do you keep your CAC on?

We are making changes this year to reduce our costs so during the day 70-72 and at night 68. In previous years it was 68 during the day and 65-66 at night. It's just to cold for DD and it is hard on my joints to have that much of a difference.

Also the air only goes on if it's really humid or above 80. Anything before that the windows are open and we get a nice cool breeze through the whole house!

It's programmed with 4 different times during the day. At night when we sleep, it is 68. During the day when we are home, it is 74. When we are out, it's 78 (so it's not constantly cooling the home when no one is home).

It's a relatively new system and keeps it icy cold at 74. We also have a smallish house.

Re: What temp do you keep your CAC on?

I've been setting it at 72-74 which has kept it comfortable. If we are going out we bump the temp up. It's our first year the CAC, we just bought this house, so we don't know how it will effect the LIPA bill either.

since having kids, 75 during the day ( we are rarely in the house)
72 at night.

Prior to kids, we use to put it to 68 at night

Re: What temp do you keep your CAC on?

We keep it at 72 during the day and 70 at night. If it's really hot out I lower it a bit bc the downstairs is always 2-3 degrees warmer than upstairs where the thermostat is and if its really sunny, it feels even warmer with the sun beaming on the windows.

We had it installed last year and kept it on from May-Sept. We NEVER turned it off. Our LIPA bill averaged $150 (actual use not balanced billing). The AC guy told us it uses less electricity if you just keep it on vs turning it on/off if you are out. Our unit is 18SEERS and has 2 stages. It's really efficient.
