What plants are good for privacy?
We have a long but thin backyard and both neighbors have chainlink fences, it's not very private. Anyone know of some good shrubbery or big bushes that might give some privacy. Something low maintenance, don't want to worry about trimming tons of hedges every spring and fall. TIA

I've been looking into the same thing and so far I'm considering Box wood.
Juniper seems to be suggested often but for me it won't be a good fit because I've heard that Juniper Berries can be toxic to pets and we have 2 small dogs.

We put Cypress trees on the side of our house where our neighbor has a side entry of a garage. They don't grow the first year that much but, after that they get tall and spread out.

oh yeah, nothing toxic, they have pets on each side and I wouldn't want them to eat it

I've been doing a ton of research on this. Now we are just trying to pick a nursery.
We are looking at the Emerald Green Arborvitaes. If you can wait for them to grow I just saw 3ft ones at Lowes for $20.
ETA: The reason I like the arborvitaes is because they are thick but don't have much of a spread so they won't take up much of my yard. You just have to plant them close together.

Be careful with Emerald Green Arborvitae. While they are slim and dense, our former landscaper said he never liked to use them b/c they get infested with some bug/disease rather quickly.
I like Boxwoods but you do have to hedge them about once a year.
