Almost 19 month old & biting...

I know this has been asked a million times on here but I am at my wits end with JJ. He use to only bite DH & I whenever he was tired or fustrated. I still think he does this but tonight was an ending point for me.

We were with family & it was getting later in the evening & JJ was surely tired, but he ended up biting 4 people (not breaking the skin) all in the matter of 2 minutes. When we were leaving, I heard one of the kids say "thank god he is leaving, I can't stand the biting" This just made me because I don't want him to be that "kid"

We have tried everything with him & he just continues to do it. Does anyone have any advice on how I can break him of this habit because my heart is breaking right now?

I would do time out everytime he does it and make him apologize to the kids that he hurt.

I would address it though.
Personally I am not one of those parents who freaks out at the thought of a biter around their kid. But they are certainly out there.

We have a biter in our daycare - my DC was bit on the nose once. The teachers are working with the kid but I know that some of the other parents are making a huge deal about it.

Just want to let you know you're not alone. My DS bites when he gets tired and frustrated. Mostly just me, then sometimes DH. He doesn't speak yet, so I think he just gets frustrated. I try timeouts but my DS doesn't really "get them" yet. I usually stand in front of him nose to nose and say "no biting" in a very firm and serious voice and lightly tap his mouth. Not hitting him, just so he understands what the "no" is for. He generally stops right away, but he's still so young. It has gotten better, but he still does it on occasion.

Don't worry about that kid's comment! Kids say whatever pops into their minds

You are definitely not alone!!!! Around that age, DS went through a phase like this. We even went so far as to have him evaluated by Early iNtervention b/c his previous daycare felt that it was a huge problem. Some suggestions OT and psychologist had given us were to allow him to chew more textured foods and to give him a vibrating toothbrush that he can bite. We also read the book "teeth are not for biting" every day. We also switched his daycare and it made SOOOOOO much of a difference! In addition, his sleeping was a problem and once he was consistently sleeping through the night, it was sooo much better! Please don't be embarressed! It is totally age appropriate.
