8 month old pinching and biting - possibly related to stopping BFing?

DS is 8 months old and going through some separation anxiety. Only wants me at the moment. But sometimes when I'm holding him, he bites down pretty hard on my shoulder, pinches my neck or grabs my face as if he's going to kiss me and then bites my lips or my cheeks. I find it happens more when he's wound up - overtired, overstimulated, etc. But I've also recently stopped BFing, so I'm wondering if it has anything to do with that. He doesn't do it to DH...
