Can I vent/cry for a minute

Chat Icon ugh! My poor baby, I'm traumatizing him with doctors appointments.
Last week, he tripped and fell into the corner of a wall at daycare, split open his face/lip, had to get 8 stitches. They papoosed him, tied his arms down when the plastic surgeon had to stitch him up, he was screaming up at me saying "all done. . .all done" "mama up, mama up" It was heartbreaking (side note-PM pediatrics and Dr. Lebowitz are awesome)

& today, he had to go back for a follow up at the urologist b/c he has to get re-circumcised. They opened the door to call his name, he started to walk in and then realize he was headed toward doctors and SCREAMED Chat Icon Chat Icon It broke my heart. We calmed him down (thank god for goldfish) then Dr. Palmer walked in and all hell broke loose again. We had to hold him down just for him to check him. I feel like a horrible Mommy. Again, looking up at me going "maaa maaa"

& now he has to get all fixed on March 22 and they are going to give him "silly juice" prior to being sedated since they said "he's traumatized by recent doctors visits' Chat Icon Chat Icon

I cried sitting in the chair waiting to just schedule his appointment on the 22nd, I can't imagine seeing him all looped up on silly juice then limp from sedation. I'm about to have an emotional breakdown & these things are not even that serious. There are worse things in this world that other parents are going through, I know that but I just don't want him to have to be in pain AGAIN.

& any advice on getting your child to "like" the doctors again?

ok, thanks for letting me get that out.

Re: Can I vent/cry for a minute

Awww Dev, I'm so sorry he's going through all of this!!!!!
And really if your child is in pain, ANY pain, the fact that there are "worse" things that happen doesn't minimize your situation ONE iota so don't feel badly ok?
Yes he will be fine, yes it will be a hard day, but YES there will come a point where he is not traumatized and actually enjoys his doc visit, I PROMISE YOU.

And maybe, just maybe, they'll give you a shot of silly juice too?? Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Poor Joey. Hopefully after this string of visits & procedures he won't have to go to the Dr for a while & he will forget. Can I ask why he needs to be re-circ?

No advice, but I got all choked up reading about what he's been through. I'd be an emotional wreck too if my DS called out for me like that.

Re: Can I vent/cry for a minute

I am so sorry!

That's alot for a mom (and baby) to handle in such a short period of time! try and think of today and enjoy your little honey.. Chat Icon the craziest thing is that they will never remember any of this and yet it'll age us moms by like 10 years!

And I'm thinking, what if you buy him a little doctor's kit with the stethoscope and the white coat thing, maybe a doctor doll, and play with him???? Might make it a little more fun???

That would break my heart. I wish I had advice. Other than bringing him for non-traumatizing events there (no shots either), I have no answers.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

or make DH drive Chat Icon I'm one of those people too, who tortures herself and wants to sit through it all. So I will carry him into surgery (only one of us can) and sit there until he's asleep. SO I may have to hold off drinking until I'm anxiously waiting for him in recovery Chat Icon
My Mom has one those kits at her house, Eddie used to play with. I'm going to steal it. Hopefully he doesn't run for the hills when he sees it.

B/c they didn't get enough off. They thought he may grow out of it and it was just baby fat but it's not.

Awww Chat Icon sorry your little guy is going through this rough patch Chat Icon

DS had a fear of Drs for a bit after he had eye surgery. We started playing Dr with him every so often with a little Dr kit. I dont know if he just forgot/ outgrew the fear or the games worked but he did get over it.

Re: Can I vent/cry for a minute

Sending you lots of Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon DS used to go hysterical every time he saw a Dr or nurse. The worst was when they do tests that they have to tie him down- just heartbreakingChat Icon But I do have to say it does get better. DS is special needs, so maybe it's different, but I feel like now he cries so much less, can calm down easier.

I was going to recommend a doctor's kit also. It really helped DS a lot, but at first he wouldn't even touch or go near the blood pressure cuff even though it didn't work and he'd cry. Our last hospital stay was so so much better. He really only cried horribly with painful/uncomfortable stuff. The last half of our stay when the Drs came to visit he would smile at them & try to clap their hands.Chat Icon
