First real ER trip last night
My poor boy had a rough day yesterday. He had an allergist visit to determine if he was still allergic to eggs as his bloodtest came back negative in September. We went in for the scratch test and it turns out he is still severely allergic and the negative was a lab eror.   Good thing I trusted my instinct and didn't give him eggs after hearing the negative result.
We got home from the allergist around 6:15. At 7, I was running his bath like I normally do. We had just finished babyproofing and putting gates up upstairs, so he had the run of the second floor. He chose to hang out in the bathroom with me as I was getting his bath ready. He was having such a great time putting his hands in the spray while I was filling up his tub - we were giggling and having so much fun. He sat down next to me and all of a sudden shouted "MAMA!" I looked down and his whole hand was covered in blood. I grabbed him up and ran his hand under the faucet - saw that he had a HUGE deep cut on his middle finger - I had NO idea how it happened and didn't think to look at that time. DH is away on business, so I ran James over to our next door neighbor who is an OR nurse. She said that we needed to bring him to the ER, so off we went to South Nassau. He was bleeding and bleeding and bleeding, but not crying at all, which was good, I guess, because it kept me calm in a way.
Very long story short - he kept bleeding until almost 10 (from 7) when they finally got us into a triage room. We went through countless gauze pads, paper towels, napkins, tissues - I even sacrificed his beloved lion blanket to wrap up his hand. They had to put him in a papoose thing to restrain him while they stitched him up. The docotr couldn't believe how deep the cut was - he ended up needing 4 stitches.  I have to follow up with my ped in a few days.
James' true personality shined through, though - even while he had blood running down his arm, he was saying HI to everybody and waving like a lunatic to get everyone's attention. He didn't shed a single tear until they wrapped him on the board to restrain him.
This kid id going to be the end of me.   
(oh - turns out that it was a piece of tile that was cracked on the floor border of the tub that he hit at *just* the right angle )

What a little trooper he was!!! I was so scared reading this and what a big smile came on my face reading about him being so brave and waving Hi to everyone!
I hope you both are doing better today!

Im dreading a trip to the ER -- I know it happens to most LO's at some point but it's always been a fear of mine 
Glad he's OK! And I'm sorry to hear about the persistant egg allergy. Such a PITA!

omg I got the chills reading about all the blood!  to you for being able to keep your cool. I'm so glad he's ok! I'm sure you probably needed a glass of wine (or two) after that ordeal

Ugh Vanessa, what a scare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So glad James is OK, and how awesome that you have a nurse neighbor. Poor little guy But I can just see him waving to everyone and making them smile
