Would you switch PEDS? WWYD?
So I have been going to this ped for a year now and at first I was like "Okay staff is a little cold but not everyone is a social butterfly"!! Well yesterday when I went I was really not happy with the experience.
I had three children with me (Teddy(3), Andrew (3mos) in the Moby wrap and Avery(almost2) my god child with me. I am struggling to open the door and they all just sit there watching me struggle. So they finally call us back, and in the room there is a tongue depressor on the floor I tell the nurse (since I don't want the kids picking it up) that it's there and she just shrugs her shoulders and goes about what she's doing. I grabbed a paper towel and toss it in the garbage. !! The nurse is got agitated that Teddy wanted to be a part of the exam. So she asked me to "Make him behave" I was like "Um...he's asking what your doing! Not trying to give the exam himself." She took the chart and walked out. The ped comes in at this point and begins asking me about Andrew. We go over the usual and he tells me that he thinks its a "SHAME I QUIT BFing." I was like "EXCUSE ME!" He tells me "Well my wife has been bfing my DS for well over a year and he is growing so nicely" At this point I was done and let him know so. When I got up to the office managers desk and told her what happened she said he says it to everyone and she is very sorry. She promised we'd never have to see that ped again, or his nurse, but I am just turned off by the whole thing. I am so annoyed I am thinking of switching but DH thinks we should give it another try. WWYD if you were in my shoes?

I would find a new ped. I am all for BFing but his comments were 100% out of line. I am sorry but that coupled with the front office staff would make me want to switch too.

I would probably have had a enough and I would switch. Unless it really has its perks, good faith in doctors judgment, close to home etc. but from the sounds of it you would be happy somewhere else. Good luck!

I support those that do it and those that don't. With my first it was too much and I had severe PPD. With Andrew my health wasn't good. It was in HIS best interest I didn't do it, even though I was still on the fence before my health went in the pooper.

I switched my ob at 32 weeks, and it was the best thing i could have ever done - not 100% related but kind of - because in it, i learned never to settle for a dr who isn't what you want - there are actually many more out there who will be the drs you want, and its almost our duty to find the perfect match for us! unless they have a speciality you need for some reason (like in my dd's case, we are forced to stay with her ped endo), run to another office as soon as you can!!!

I switched peds 3 times before I found one I loved. As soon as something the previous ones said or did that I didn't like, I left. If I don't feel comfortable with them, I am not going to stay. So in your case, I would most def. switch.

I switched ped's in the beginning and for me the 3rd time was the charm. We have been there for almost 9 years now and couldnt be happier. I would sooo switch.

I would switch. There are too many options out there to settle with a practice that you don't feel totally comfortable with.

I agree with other posters. If you are not 100% comfortable with the Dr's in a practice I would switch. You should never have to have any ill feelings going to a dr. No pun intended.

Re: Would you switch PEDS? WWYD?
My BFF is a Ped and she puts it this way - she wants to be the best doctor she can be, but at the end of the day, it's a business. At her practice, as I'm sure is the case at a lot of other practices, doctors are encouraged to be attentive etc to their patients, but also to be quick since the more patients they see, the more money they make.
At your Ped's office they should know that they are dealing not only with children, but also their parents and if they don't treat them right, they're going to lose patients and therefore lose money.
I don't know a better way to send a signal to a doctor that you don't like the way they are acting (or their employees) than to leave the practice. They are losing YEARS worth of visits when you leave and that adds up to $$$. If you're not happy, SWITCH! I say it's not worth the aggravation!
My friend at work changed peds about a year ago because she HATED the way the staff was - she loved the doctor, but hated the staff so much. So she switched. A couple of weeks ago the office called her stating her daughter was up for her 3 year visit. She was like . Turns out the entire staff was switched so she decided to go back and give them another try and she said everything was so much better. I think in her case, the ped must have lost enough patients to know they had to make a change.
If you go, I would also let them KNOW why you're leaving. Give them other examples too, even if just to say you don't like the cold demeanor of the staff.

Okay I spoke to DH about it and he agreed the comments were inappropriate and I am calling today to get the boys medical records.
