DS definitely and if the roles were reversed i'd want him to save DS over me as well, no hesitation. DH and I are adults, we'd be more capable of saving ourselves.

DC without a doubt. DH and I have actually talked about this based on a case we saw on the news where the man saved his wife instead of his son. We both agreed kids first no matter what.

Why is it so horrible to ask???
It was recently brought up in a real life conversation and I was surprised at some peoples answers. Figured I'd post it here!

I just feel that it's a really morbid question and one that I wouldn't even ever want to have a conversation about or think about. & You're right I had a choice not to answer or open this post but it's LIF and I did.
I don't care that it was asked but I just think it's a horrible question.
Maybe I'm extra sensitive this week b/c of AF but my stomach sank when reading this question. (as I'm sure EVERYONEs did)

Not sure why you'd never want to have this conversation, tradgedy happens all the time and its a very real conversation that I've had with my DH. I also think its important to have because you may think your DH would act one way and he may not. A close friend of mine was shocked to find out that her DH would save her as opposed to their DC (she never in a million years thought thats how he'd react). She was able to make her wishes clear to save their DC if God forbid they were ever in a situation.
Sorry if it made you heart sink but I made the title of the post clear to what I was asking. You didn't have to open it if it was going to upset you!

Just wanted to add that i agree with Devon but I think for brand new mothers like us,its a little... I guess shocking to think of that situation just yet. I can't explain it very well though.

Well I'm NOT a brand new mother and I got annoyed over the question. Not annnoyed at the poster but annoyed that I even thought about something like that happening. Now I'm upset and anxious thinking god forbid I was ever in a sitation like that.

I don't think its a bad question to ask at all. I think you have to think about worst case scenario when you have kids. My husband and I have discussed our route in case of a fire, etc. I answered via the poll

I'm not saying this is a bad question to ask ourselves. & maybe I just don't get it. But to make a poll about this question, I find very odd. Let's see who leaves their child in a burning building????? OF COURSE I WOULDN"T and DH would never eiher!!!! EVER! but I find this to be a "game" of sorts...maybe that's why I'm bothered by it...

this is an upsetting question to even think about but I guess it is reality that something like this could happen.
Since I became a mom, I find myself imagining and worrying about all sorts of tragedies and disasters happening to my family that I would never had thought of before.
I would absolutely save my child first and I would want DH to do the same.

I answered but I did think to myself who would say they would save their DH on a parenting board, over their child? But I guess that's why there is a poll attached.

This reminded me of the movie Sophie's Choice. I have never seen it all the way through, I just can't bring myself to-it's hard to think about your kid and your husband, but then my mind goes to well, which kid do I get first?
DH and I need to have a conversation about a fire plan. We had one with DD, but now with two, I think we need to revisit.
