dishwasher settings....

dh and i are in this never ended battle over whether we shoud use the heated dry or not... he likes not having wet stuff coming ou of the dishwasher but it annoys me that things tend to melt on the bottom if it is on.. PLUS it adds alot of time onto the cycle..

Re: dishwasher settings....

we never use the dry cycle because the water is hot enough that it ends up drying anyway.

Never use the heated dry (unless DD hits the button and we don't see it... Chat Icon ).
The dishes manage to dry just fine without using all of that extra electricity.

We don't use it. I usually wait about a half hour after the cycle is over to open the dishwasher. All of the items are dry by then.

My dishwasher booklet says using the heat option costs just pennies to do so.

ALways use it. But plastic stuff tends to stay wet. However, all your plastics should be on top and then they won't melt.

Always-I feel like I get spots if I don't, even with JetDry or any added rinse aid.

I have electronics on power strips so I can completely shut off my printers, DVDs, etc. to prevent the tiny amount of "vampire" power being drawn. Even "a few pennies" seems like too much just to dry dishes. We usually run the dishwasher late at night, so it's not done until we're asleep. It's got 7+ hours to dry overnight.....

We never use the heated dry cycle. If things are still wet, we use a dish cloth to dry them or put them in the dish rack by the sink.

Re: dishwasher settings....

i always use the heat dry feature!

I never have anything melt unless a tupperware top somehow fell to the bottom shelf. tupperware and similar should always be put on the top rack

Re: dishwasher settings....

always!!! i've never had anything melt on me.

it is pennies to run--i'm not worried about pennies adding up. if i don't use the setting i have to hand dry everything or wait hours for it to dry. to be able to take it right out of the dishwasher and put it away is a time saver for me.

Knives aren't supposed to be washed in the dishwasher and generally if it is or has any kind of plastic...it's top rack only, knives included.

Re: dishwasher settings....

I've always used the heated dry. Anything plastic is always top shelf. I've never had anything melt, except once when a lid to my kids sippy cup must have fallen through the racks and landed directly on the bottom heating element and melted itself around it. Smelled gross and was hard to get off!
