Homeowner's Insurance

I actually have great news since we got a commitment letter from the bank- which now means I can start shopping for HO insurance.

I tried All State, Liberty Mutual (which doesn't cover LI) and State Farm. Are there any others I should call? I heard that State Farm is cheap...I just hope it covers Long Island still.

Re: Homeowner's Insurance

My broker got us insurance through TSC Direct. We had a hard time getting a policy because we are south of Montauk highway, close to the water (but not in a flood zone) and not a lot of companies are writing policies for homes on LI any more.

Geico has it. You go through them but the company that actually provides it for you is Travelers' (I think thats the name of the company). When I bought my car this summer, while I waited at the dealership for them to fax over my insurance info they gave me a quote for homeowners insurance.

When did they start this? When we bought our home last year they didn't offer it.

We have Allstate and they also insure our cars. The more you have insured with a company, the better rates you get.

i have had renters insurance from geico through travelers for almost 2 years now. maybe renters insurance is so much different than homeowners insurance.

Re: Homeowner's Insurance

Liberty still does HO on long island, I actually just switched to them in the past week.

For Liberty and State Farm, each office had quotas, once they reach that quota they cannot write anymore policies. However if you try another office you may be able to get a policy.

Allstate I would stay away from just because they are dropping LI HO regularly. We just got dropped (after 5+ years, no claims) and our agent told me that the company will continue to cut their liability until they feel its in a reasonable range.

We looked at Liberty, State Farm and Amica.

I was about to say, wait, i have Liberty Mutual!Chat Icon For everything, car insurance, h/o, life, etc.

Here is my guy, give him a buzz.

ETA: I had State Farm when I had renters which is the only reason they even gave me a quote when I was shopping for H/O. They were significantly higher than Liberty. I think $400 a year or so...and then Liberty knocked another 10% off when we moved our cars over to them!Chat Icon

I guess it is, because I was trying to get a quote and they said they don't cover Long Island for homewoners Insurance *yet*

I just called Geico to see if they cover LI and they said they do cover certain parts of LI. They needed a zip code to be able to tell me if a particular area is covered. I called 800-841-2964 (the home owners insurance dept).

I live in Queens and didnt realize it might be different for LI.

Re: Homeowner's Insurance

We got ours through Geico and since our auto policy is with them too we got a discount. Even w/o the discount they were the cheapest.
