Crickets
We seem to have a huge cricket problem in my house. Dh sprayed something in the basement and they disappeared for a short time but they're back and now I have found one on the basement stairs and he found one in his shoe in the hall closet FAR from the basement door
Do I just call an exterminator for this? I havent seen any other bugs, just crickets?

Re: Crickets
We also have this problem! They are so nasty. Thankfully, the winter is coming so you won't see many then. We also have to call an exterminator.

Re: Crickets
We get a lot of camel crickets (the big ugly ones). Honestly I would just spray some bug spray near the doors outside, maybe get some sticky tape traps for inside. From experience, you should stop seeing them in a about a month b/c of the cold.

Same here! They're HUGE! I had never even SEEN a cricket in my life (city girl ) and I've seen enough of them in a month here to last me a lifetime!
Maybe we'll just spray again and wait it out

Re: Crickets
We put out the a couple of cricket traps and that catches most of them. I don't recall the name, but I get the traps at Ace or True Value hardware (haven't seen them at HD or Lowe's) They are a yellow tray with a sticky glue and the crickets flock to it like it's candy.

Re: Crickets
You really don't need an exterminator. Buy the glue traps for mice and put them as close to the wall as you can get! A lot of people here have posted about it in the past and found success this way.
Good luck, I know they're freakin nasty!!

Re: Crickets
be careful when you open your front door - It's like they wait there for me to open...I'm constantly shooing them out.

Re: Crickets
Ugh! These are the ones that don't make noise, right? Black huge ones? I've found 3 so far in my basement and one in my playroom. I am horrified with bugs in general so when they in the house, it's awful. They are effing hard to catch too. I've hairsprayed 2 and been able to kill the other 2. I am so afraid to go in the basement. I have a cat who mostly hangs out in the basement when my kids are awake - she is either killing the rest or not doing her job.

Re: Crickets
I thought I was the only one having this problem. Last night I must have killed 8 of them alone. I'm vacumming them up and throwing the bag out in the garbage outside.

Re: Crickets
GLUE TRAPS Go get them now seriously.
Oh and when you trap one leave it in there. Crickets are carnivores and eat each other so if you leave it in there the others will be attracted to it and you end up with a pile of dead crickets. Gross to look at, but I never trap any in my new glue traps anymore, just the end traps.
Obviously I feel your pain

Re: Crickets
They are probably camel back crickets - are they big and jump AT you?
If so - we had to have them treat for them outside and then they don't come back - if you treat for them quarterly. It is my understanding that they are pretty common and around a lot the past year or two.

The glue traps work but I never knew they were carnivores. I kiiled two of them the other day and left them on the floor for my dh to clean up. When we came home 2 hours later...they were gone.
Then just the other day, my dh found the mother of all crickets. This thing was huge! I guess that was the one that was eating the other.
OMG GROSS!!!!!!!!!

Re: Crickets
We've sprayed with the Ortho Max Defense bug spray from HD and it's been pretty helpful. We have a friend who's an exterminator and he recommended it
those friggin camel crickets are HUGE!! i've been assuming that our cats like to eat them since i'm always finding random legs or body parts around, but now maybe i'm thinking its other crickets? ew ew ew!
Dh flicks them with his finger to kill them, it usually works. i won't go near them - can't even throw something over them to trap them because the little buggers actually jump at you!
