I hate living 'here'
I hate living in the *millennium.*
I was watching Legends of the Fall over the weekend, and I was thinking how I would have LOVED to live around the turn of the century... or a decade after... Around 1913... Don't know why really...
I'd also like to live in the late 30s, early 40s... WWII time. Just the whole era appeals to me. (Not the war part of course) but I guess back then we were REALLY fighting enemies.
I wonder if people will look back on US one day and say... 'wow, I wish I could have lived back THEN...'
what about you guys, what time era would you like to try out?

Re: I hate living 'here'
I would have like to live in the 1950's baby boomer/post war times. I know it probably wasn't all it was cracked up to be, but it does seem appealing to me.

Re: I hate living 'here'
I always wished I was born around 1950, so that I could be a teenager and go to Woodstock Plus growing up then just seemed so much simpler. And the music was great.

I've always loved the idea of the 20s... the age of wonderful nonsense.. but the stock market crash was supposedly BRUTAL.
Elizabethan England.... YES.
Don't you wish you could just transport there for a day?
by there I mean ANYWHERE... just for a day.
this is what I call 'pot talk'

Re: I hate living 'here'
I'd like to time travel but wouldn't want to live at another time.
Frankly, I'm lazy. People worked their azz off unless they were royalty. There was no resting - you had to go lug water from a well that you didn't know was infested with rats & whatever plague was passing through town.
But time travelling...I'd love to see Elizabethan England Greek Empire the 20s in NYC be a teenager in the early 70s a housewife in the 50s (mainly to see if I would have assimilated like the rest of my neighbors or would I still not be able to cook).

Re: I hate living 'here'
I wouldn't mind going back and experiencing another time for a very short while... but I would NOT want to live in any past era. Honestly, I think that we have romanticized what those times were REALLY like. In fact, whenever I watch a movie or hear stories that make me want to experience living during another time, I wonder what THIS time will be remembered as 100+ years from now...

Lay off the mary jane, Caz.
Truthfully, I'd love to be a fly on the wall watching my mom grow up. The stories she tells are unbelieveable.

yeah but the way I see it is... we KNOW how much easier life is now... if we didn't know the now we know... how would we know how hard it was then?
It would be normal to us.
and yes, I just said 'know the now we know and how would we know...'
say that 10 times fast

' stories?

What I said has nothing to do with how relatively "easy" or "hard" life was then compared to now. I just don't think any period of life was SO GREAT that I would trade the present for that time period. I think they've just been glorified and romanticized over time... Every era has good and bad. I'll take the present.

Re: I hate living 'here'
I love Elizabethan England, WWII era, 1950's and 70's MAINLY for the fashion statements To actually LIVE during that time, NAH, women had horrible lives and were treated like crap. EVEN the royals....
I was always a "futuristic" kind of kid, I adored The Jetsons and I swear to you I'm kind of ticked that I'm 41 and we STILL use cars instead of hovercrafts So beam me ahead to the day when we zip around up in the clear blue skies, and have friendly robots cleaning our houses.
I do have a Roomba and a Scooba, and I call them Rosie and Astro respectively.

I am right where I want to be, when I want to be.
I have to laugh that everyone loves Elizabeth England so much, it was horrible, babies were dying, the plague and cholera were rife. It was Ring around the rosie all the time!
But I do live near to lots of buildings from that period, and I pass by an original tudor house on a regular basis.

GREAT BOOK.

'50's definitely. Every era has it's issues, but by comparisson, something about that era seemed more "innocent"
