I am right where I want to be, when I want to be.

I have to laugh that everyone loves Elizabeth England so much, it was horrible, babies were dying, the plague and cholera were rife. It was Ring around the rosie all the time!

But I do live near to lots of buildings from that period, and I pass by an original tudor house on a regular basis.

I always wonder how people even HAD sex during that time...the "smells" were not too palatable I imagine.

I know it would be awful in reality (look at Geoffry Rush's teeth in Shakespeare in Love...Chat Icon or Judy Dench for that matter..and she was the QUEEN!) but there is something about courtly love that I just....love...

I love the structure of society...I love the propriety of the dressing and all that good stuff...

and I LOVE the way they spoke.

and lord knows I LOVE my Shakespeare...Chat Icon

Re: I hate living 'here'

I've kind of always felt that the times were living in now are pretty exciting. If it wasnt so scary and there wasnt so much at stake, I think the "2000's" are a fascinating time to be alive. So much history is being made.

The late 1800s ...

And I'd like to go to school with Laura Ingalls, and have Charles Ingalls as my father Chat Icon

I would NOT have wanted to live around legend of the fall time - all that tuberculosis and consumption killing everyone Chat Icon

I would have loved to live in the 60's - no joke. I wouldn't want all my friends dying in Vietnam, but man, I would have been on THAT bus, if you know what I mean. I would have been the mother of all flower children for real....

Lay off the mary jane, Caz.

Truthfully, I'd love to be a fly on the wall watching my mom grow up. The stories she tells are unbelieveable.

or the stories about the 'cross dressing Uncle who survived his ship going down in the war, who's fiance jumped off a building because she was carrying someone else's baby so he married her sister... became an alcoholic and was killed on queens blvd because he was running back to the bar... ' stories?

YES!!!!!!!

While I think it would be interesting to live in another era I am certainly grateful to live in the present time. While we have certain "difficulties" I don't think I would trade it for a different era especially as a woman.

Women in the past had absolutely no rights, could not be property owners, were subjected to marital rape without recourse (as it was a crime to turn down your husband), birth control was illegal, so you basically has to be pregnant all the time regardless of whether you wanted to or not. I could go on and on...(I was a women's studies minor Chat Icon )

I would love to live in the fictional version of earlier times but probably not in the real version.

I would only want to live in another time if I was guaranteed to be of the highest class, with the most money, with the most servants, a private doctor, indoor plumbing.

If I was a peasant, I would have to say Oi. No.

I would love to live in the 1930s (although the Depression - it was one time in American History that people pulled together) or the 1940s to be part of the War effort.

I kinda like that... Then I would have known my 'place.' Life now is so confusing because I have so many 'options'... Back then I wouldn't take any guff and just accept my place.

I say the 1950s. My grandmother and mother raised me with the sentiment of becoming a wife of that era. They stressed how important it was to make sure to fold laundry correctly and clean dishes efficiently. They reminded me that "no man wants a lady who can't make a meatball". No joke. I rebelled and became quite the opposite. I wonder sometimes if i made the right choice, but only for a moment.

I would like to live during the 1940s - my grandmother always talked so fondly of that time (even though my grandfather was in the war) - they always seemed to be visitng neighbors/family - people seemed so much closer - the pictures of the "gettogethers" looked so much fun - sunday dinner looked like a party.

I always wished I was born around 1950, so that I could be a teenager and go to Woodstock Chat Icon Plus growing up then just seemed so much simpler. And the music was great.

Ditto ! When I was a kid I always wanted to work at a drive-up burger place so I could wear roller skates Chat Icon And I think poodle skirts & saddle shoes are adorable !

after I watch a movie from those times, I am always thankful to be living now. I like running water, electricity and good healthcare. not to mention showering daily!

it would be great if I could visit those times, but not stay!

Hands down.. ancient egypt or rome

always been fascinated with those times - to be there and see how they dealt with things we take for granted now..
of course i'd prefer to be a wealthy family and not a slave! and just visit.. with a tour guide who'd helpfully point out the things i should and shouldn't do

I used to want to be Laura Ingalls. The thing that scared me though was the dentistry equipment.

Re: I hate living 'here'

I'm too much a fan of indoor plumbing, electricity, modern dentistry, due process, deodorant, washing machines, cars, the right to vote, birth control, epidurals, the internet and professional eyebrow waxer people to live in any other time than now.
