Anyone Scared of Being a Mom?

For those who are pregnant and expecting their first child, are you somewhat dreading the thought of being a mom? Not that you don't want to, but it's just going to be such a life changing event when the baby arrives!

I'm starting to be apprehensive now that it's becoming more of a reality ! Chat Icon

Re: Anyone Scared of Being a Mom?

A little- it's mostly a fear of my life changing. I love weekends with nothing to do but what we feel lilke doing.

Things are so good right now, and my relationship with DH is better than it's ever been. I know having a baby puts a strain on marriage, so that kind of scares me....

Re: Anyone Scared of Being a Mom?

I am very excited to experience all the, for lack of a better word, joy of parenthood (I am not the kind of person who says things like "joy of parenthood").

BUT, I am very nervous for the beginning-- being able to deal with a newborn, not knowing what to do-- I am very afraid of being overwhelmed as I tend to get stressed easily.

I just want to do everything right, as as my kid gets older, I don't want to screw them up.

Re: Anyone Scared of Being a Mom?

I'm not really scared about the changes the baby will bring, I'm more afraid of knowing what to do .. theres no babys on either side of our family, so I'm not really around them enough to know much, so that scares me

scared is not even the word. I am very bad with change, so i think it is going to take time to adjust into being a mom. thank goodness we have 9 months to prepare!

Re: Anyone Scared of Being a Mom?

It's kinda reassuring to know some of us feel the same...

I'm watching alot of DVDs and reading alot of books but nothing's really gonna prepare for the real thing. It's sorta like preparing for a test, you never know if you're gonna end up with a difficult baby who's gonna test all your patience...

I think I was scared for the first few weeks after I knew I was pregnant. FREAKED OUT is more like it.

But now, I'm totally psyched and can't wait for her to get here!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

last year i was scared-and started wondering if i was missing out of stuff. I mc'ed then spent time building my life closer to the way i wanted it...... i dont feel scared anymore- althought if i did give birth last year I know that I would have felt calm and reassured once the baby was born and in my arms

Re: Anyone Scared of Being a Mom?

I'm so scared!!! I wonder every day if I'm ready for the responsibility. My Dh is really calm about the whole situation and tells me all the time to relax, and everything will work out fine. I worry about everything, so it is not easy for me to relax.

Same here...I am very nervous, even though this is what I dreamed of all my life!

This is pretty much how I feel. I'm more scared of "getting things right" and knowing what to do than my life changing. I also get stressed really easily, so that worries me.

I feel like we're 'taking the plunge'.

We have such a serene home.... it's our refuge. I'm a bit worried about how it will become chaotic with kids... I'm simply riding on my faith of the statements all parents keep repeating to us... that you'll never regret it and it will make life more complete...

but yeah, I'm nervous!

Ditto that!! I'm not nervous to be a mom, I'm nervous how it's going to change our quiet, comfy little life. I love my house and how we've decorated, I'm anal about keeping things clean and neat and I'm more nervous about how the baby is going to change all that. I know it sounds silly but that's what makes me more nervous than anything.

Re: Anyone Scared of Being a Mom?

from a BTDT mom, all I can say is when your baby arrives, instincts kick in and you will just know what to do. Best of luck, it is the most amazing journey. Chat Icon

Re: Anyone Scared of Being a Mom?

I always thought I would be, but I'm not. Maybe that's because I still have another 20 weeks to go. But I'm so excited to meet my little girl and be a mommy. I'm even more excited to see my husband become her daddy. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I was more worried about labor and delivery than I was with what to do when my little guy arrived. Your instincts will kick in when you hold your baby, if not...the Parenting board is very helpful Chat Icon

Re: Anyone Scared of Being a Mom?

I was totally freaked out my first trimester. And well before I even got preggers, anything related to giving birth grossed me out.

Not anymore though. I am totally looking forward to it. I think because I've had several months to wrap my brain around it.

I think this is normal stuff, because my SIL is newly preggers and is going through the same feelings I was several months ago.

I am very much looking forward to becoming part of the "mommy club".

Re: Anyone Scared of Being a Mom?

The only thing I am scared of is being too worried...and not knowing what to do (but I know this will all come in time). I just don't want to be a nervous wreck and that scares me!

To all the first time mommies:

The Parenting board is a LIFE SAVER. I'm naturally a neurotic in every other facet of my life- yet I am a really laid back parent. I can't help but feel like it's from the amazing insight and advice (and especially support) that I have gotten from that wonderful grup of women,.

Re: Anyone Scared of Being a Mom?

I m not really scared but nervous as well. I'm is really excited to be a mom, but I feel like I really don't know what to expect and what to do in the beginning. I have no babies or young children in my family...so I'm lacking in that experience. But I'm sure I'll get the hang of it quickly. Chat Icon

I am sure this is true. I would be lost without the guidance of the LIF ladies, that's for sure. Chat Icon
