Benjamin Moore vs. Behr's

Besides the priceChat Icon what's the difference. In the past we used Behr but we will be repainting and I was tossing around the idea of using. The walls in my coop tend to crack and peel and there are many imperfections. Is the price difference worth it.

Re: Benjamin Moore vs. Behr's

I will NEVER use Behr paint. I know that there are some people that have and liked it but I had a horrible experience. Basically, we had a professional painter paint our house and when he saw that we had Behr paint, the poor guy cringed, but being that we had already purchased the paint, he went through with what we gave him. The paint was like glue and when he went to do a second coat, the first coat was literally ripped up off the walls. DEF not worth it. We ended up going to Aboff's and buying BM paint in the colors we wanted and chucking the Behr paint.

I will only use Benjamin Moore or Shermin Williams.

I've used both and I think BM is better quality. I wouldn't use Behr again. BM goes on better IMO.

My parents had their house painted using Benjamin Moore - their painter told them he uses that paint because it covers better.

We used Sherwin Williams and were happy with the results.

Re: Benjamin Moore vs. Behr's

Benjamin Moore paint is so expensive.

If its an important room, i'd use BM. But if its for a secondary room, like a guest room/bathroom/kids room, i'd use Behr.

Ive used Behr before and have had no issues.

I've always found Benjamin Moore covers much better and I wind up using less coats.

I know the price per can is more, but I wind up using less cans than Behr's and less of my timeChat Icon so Benjamin Moore winds up being cheaper in the end.

Agreed. Plus my FIL is a retired painter (that comes out of retirement for us) and that's all he'll use...so it has trickled down to DH Chat Icon

Our painter only used BM, we tried one Sherwin Williams room and he said it wasn't bad at all and would use it again...

Re: Benjamin Moore vs. Behr's

We painted the whole house ourselves- I used Behr in ONE room and vowed to NEVER buy it again - it was AWFUL !!!

The color was completely off from the swatch, it took 4 coats to cover, it was SO difficult to put on - Never ever again -

BM is the best! I know too many people who had problems with Behr's.

Re: Benjamin Moore vs. Behr's

We just painted most of our house and used BM. Although it covers really well and in fewer coats, it doesn't seem to wear as well. For example, if the back of our dining room chair is resting against the wall, it will actually take some of the paint off if someone sits in it and it moves a little. In our son's old room, we originally used Behr's and three years later, it still looks like we just painted it. It's his playroom now and he throws things around in there and hits the wall with toys, and they still look great. Behr's takes a few coats, but lasts a lot longer in our experience.

regardless of brand used, if the walls are in poor condition, you HAVE to prep first. even the most $$$ brands are not going to cover cracks and peeled paint.

We've painted our last two apartments using BM and Behr's and BM is by far the best.

For us, the increase in price is worth not having the aggravation of Behrs. We will only use BM from now on.

Re: Benjamin Moore vs. Behr's

I will never buy Behr's again and we had used a nice primer too. The Behr's paint coverage was horrible. It was a white paint. It took 1 coat of primer and "4" coat of paint and we could still see the drywall seams with the white tape.

I never bought another color. It was such a nightmare with the white I did not want to keep wasting$$

We used Behr and it came out the same as my sister's home which is BM - Behr's flat paint was rated the easiest to clean and it def is!

Re: Benjamin Moore vs. Behr's

I've used both....definitely prefer BM paint- it coats so well!! and its more true to the color swatch than Behr (although I've finally started using paint samples, so that helps too!). Behr was just ok, I just felt like I needed to do 3 coats, whereas BM goes on so well w/ just 2.
