Anyone have homeowner's insurance from Geico?

I didn't even know they offered it. I've had my car insurance with them since 1995, so I'm going to get a quote from them first.

Someone told me that it's not Geico itself providing coverage - they act as a broker for these policies.

Just wondering what that experience is like. Besides them, we are going to try a broker that came recommended, and probably Liberty Mutual also for quotes on home + auto and possibly an umbrella.

TIA! Chat Icon

Re: Anyone have homeowner's insurance from Geico?

Geico uses Traveler's for HO insurance, and Traveler's is not writing new policies for LI.

To make you feel better even if they were I checked them out when I bought my house and they had a lot of rules prior to them issuing me insurance (boiler couldn't be a certain age, it would have to be replaced--that is the only one I remember but there were more) and they were very expensive--almost double what state farm and the company we ended up going with charged.

I called them two years ago- they were much, much more expensive than the other places I called (State Farm and Met Life) if that make you feel any better.

I did not use Geico, but I just placed my HO Insurance with Traveler's. I have heard that it's Geico that is not writing on LI anymore.

Tricia, check out state farm, they gave us the best quote by far.

Yeah I am in Suffolk. Might be just a Nassau County thing then.

We just got ours through Geico / Travelers last month... however, we are a condo, so the insurance is probably different.

ETA - we are in Nassau.

You can place Insurance through Travelers direct and you can't through Geico. Probably the arrangement Geico made with Travelers is not longer available.

Interesting... We got ours by going through Geico less than a month ago, but like I said, we have condo insurance, which is different.

They are probably still doing condo since they aren't insuring the dwelling - just contents, interior and liability - so they are taking on less risk. It might also be through an arrangement with a different carrier - not Travellers. I know they have their renters agreement with another company.

Yes, like I said, condo insurance is different - it's like renters insurance and easier to find places writing policies. I'm 100% positive it's Travellers (not another carrier), and we went through Geico.

I went thru Geico and they sent me to Travlers. I have my homeowners insurance thru them, but I too have a co-op.

They got in trouble for dropping so many people in NY - especially those who had auto through them.

DH is hitting up an insurance broker that his company has a "deal" with first. Then we'll try out Geico, State Farm, and a broker that came highly recommended. Chat Icon

Re: Anyone have homeowner's insurance from Geico?

So my husband got us a quote through Travelers and although we're going to straighten it out, I wasn't impressed with the broker.

He quoted 1000 dollar deductibles on comp and collision straight off. Even after being told that our car has a loan. The liability was 100/300 which is very conservative IMO also.

So I went through the online quote application with State Farm only to find at the end that they can't quote me online. So I forwarded it to an agent for follow up tomorrow.

Then I called Geico's homeowners ins line and after putting in both 516 and 631, got a recording that they no longer write homowners or condo policies in these area codes.

Two leads to follow up on tomorrow... But I'm amazed at how few choices there are these days!

Thanks again for your help. I wanted to put this out there for anyone else who may be wondering where to shop!

We went with Liberty Mutual.

Just got off the phone with them and you're not going to believe what they just told me.

I gave them the zip and they said that unless I met one of these criteria, they couldn't write the policy:

1. One of us is a member of a credit union
2. One of us is a Hofstra University alumni
3. One of us owns a BMW.

Are you SERIOUS? Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

This is starting to get ridiculous.
