Very sad. I do agree though that there needs to be more parental supervision sometimes. My son is 3 1/2 and he is constantly running out the door when he sees my dh outside. It scares me to death. While being a parent is VERY hard, you still have the responsibilty to watch your kids.

Not to sound mean but how do you NOT hear your child going out a window or door?
Someone said they had seen the child roaming the streets all the time. At 3???My son is 3 and he is not allowed out of our site at all times. He can play in the backyard but I watch him out the window and he knows not to leave the yard.
I totally agree it is a tragedy but some parents really need to start watching their kids.
My neighbors grandkids (now in their 40's) used to ride up and down the street by themselves at 2. They NEVER watched them and now they do the same with their own kids.

They said the mother put an armoire in front of the door so he would not get out. She did NOT hear that thing moving? Where was she?

I feel REALLY bad for the family...

BUT...

If he left the house at 7:30, why did she only realize at 9:00 that he was gone? I hate to put blame on parents, because anything can happen in a second, but COME ON, an hour and a half that he left the house and she didn't know Chat Icon

ITA with you. He was an only child too. WHERE was the mother that she did NOT hear that armoire being moved?
I feel horrible but there has to be some parental responsibility taken.

Re: 3 y/o drown in pool in Shirley

that is so sad - but there is a big time difference between 7:30 and 9:00. How did the mother not hear him leave. I would be super paranoid knowing that obviously he likes to roam out and about - I would be all over that kid all the time.

It's so tragic!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Damien is 3 and 1/2 and he knows how to unlock both our front and back door, plus we have a pool. So this story really made me think. It is so sad and I told my DH another reason we can be happy he sleeps in our bed.
