Those who had hardwood floors done ...
What finish did you get? Glossy, semi-glossy, or satin (sateen?)? I need to decide by Friday!

I wanted satin b/c I don't care for a high-gloss finish...the finisher talked me into the semi-gloss and I am happy with the results. It is a dull shine and the grains of the wood are more noticeable (as opposed to just noticing the shine on a high-gloss) which is what was important to me.

We stained our floors with Golden Oak stain (we have oak floors). Then we finished with satin finish (water based poly). It dries faster, is safer, less toxic and less smell, and IMO, you can see the scratches much less than high gloss.
So I do think the high gloss is much more durable than the satin...but still love the satin finish.

Our floors were in perfect condition - the finish just needed refreshing.

Thanks for posting those pics, Goobster! Your floors look fabulous - and you have a really beautiful home!!
We decided to go with satin after the guy convinced us it was the best decision based on our particular floors. I will see the final product tonight - hopefully I love it!

Yep, we had the floors sanded, stained, and then poly. I've seen it w/ the stain, but not w/ any of the poly (we didn't move into the house yet - that's next week!). I took pictures of all the steps, so once I get my final set of pics, I'll post them.
And definitely post more pics if you have them!

What color stain did you use, do you recall? That was a hard choice for us, but we love what we chose (Minwax golden oak).

You can right click on the photo and there should be a resize option (you can also sent to LIF to be resized, but I've never done that).
I love the color of your walls in the last pic! Is that Benjamine Moore? If so, do you know what color?? (Painting is our next step  ).
For stain we chose Minwax Provincial ... it's a darker shade than yours ... I can't wait to see the final product!! (Leaving in a few mins!!)

Our floors were here already.They were protected by carpet and lucky for us, beautiful parquet floors were pretty much preserved for us to finish.

Provincial..dont recall it. I think we were also thinking about Early American (or something like that) by Minwax. It was darker than the golden oak.
I hope you love it and I hope you post pics for us to see!
