Christening cake - Bakery vent - ugh! PLEASE HELP!
DD's christening is this Sunday. We are having the party at a restaurant in Lynbrook that is providing the cake to us from Malverne Bakery. The restaurant manager said I could just go to Malverne Bakery, order the cake and he will pick it up and pay for it - we need approx a 1/2 sheet cake.
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a 2 tier fondant cake for the christening but honestly can not afford that right now and I'm sure that would be above and beyond what the restaurant is willing to provide.
So I was set on ordering a cake in the shape of the cross. The manager at the bakery is INSISTING that they don't make shape cakes (I know they DO b/c a friend ordered one for her son's christening in December). FINE so I figured I would pick out a nice sheet cake design from their book or something - they DO NOT have a book! So I am scouring the internet for a picture of a cake now that I can give to them to make.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE share your christening cake pictures with me and any advice you may have...
I am so disappointed that this is turning out to be a plain-ish sheet cake. We have put so much time and effort into the details of this party and I just wanted something nice I could get a sheet cake at the supermarket....

question, why not go to another bakery since it seems the one you are using isn't much help at all.

Can you complain to the restaurant that you will be spending $$$ at? Maybe they have some pull with the bakery.

I am surprised ~ Malverne Bakery is the best. Maybe they have an agreement with the restaurant ~ the restaurant only wants them to make a certain cakes (to keep there costs down)
Good Luck!

Joey's didn't even have a cross on it I don't think anyone even noticed the cake to be honest with you but I would think this is more of an agreement issue the restaurant has with the bakery SINCE the restaurant pays for the cake.

Re: Christening cake - Bakery vent - ugh! PLEASE HELP!
I did a small party for my son's Catholic Christening and got the cake from Waldbaum's, not only was it delicious, but I think they did a decent job. And $20!!!
It's starting to melt a bit here...

No pics, sorry. Just wanted to say that you CAN get a sheet cake at the supermarket, but it WILL NOT taste like a Malverne Bakery cake. Their cakes are awesome! Sorry, though, that you are having troubles with them......
