Re: Official ALL THINGS FLU RELATED Thread
Mikayla and I both got our regular flu shot and once DH kicks the upper respiratory infection he currently has, he will be getting one too
the ped strongly advised us ALL to get the seasonal flu shot since we have a NB in the house (I would have gotten one anyway and so would have miki)
As for the H1N1, we are not getting that vaccine

Re: Official ALL THINGS FLU RELATED Thread
My boys received the regular flu shot (they are 7 mo and in daycare). They have NOT gotten H1N1 -- my ped did not recommend it at their visit last month.
Me and DH received the regular flu shot, not H1N1, nor will we....

Re: Official ALL THINGS FLU RELATED Thread
None of my children (ages 2, 5, and 6) will be getting any type of flu shot. No "seasonal" and NO NO NO H1N1.
Why? Because every year they DID get the seasonal flu shot, they ALL got the flu, and the H1N1 is too new, and IMO not safe.

Re: Official ALL THINGS FLU RELATED Thread
I have an almost 3 year old DD and a 12 week old DS.
DS is too young for any of them.
My DD and I already received our seasonal flu shots. DH will also.
We will all get the h1n1 vaccine as well. I don't classify that vaccine as "new" as it is just like the seasonal flu vaccine.
To me the risk of any of us getting H1n1 is greater than any possible remote risk from the vaccine.
My uncle (who is in his early 50s and healthy) has been in the hospital for a week now with the Swine Flu. He is intubated and in ICU. They are not sure he will make it. So, for me, the risk hits home.

Re: Official ALL THINGS FLU RELATED Thread
No to either for myself or my 11 mth old DD. I dont feel our risks are great enough to warrant putting extra chemicals into our bodies. There are risks whether you take the vaccine or not IMO, which one is greater? For us, the risk of the vaccine is worse IMO.
For those who feel flu shots may be unsafe and have side effects (not just swine, regular flu also) to some people/children, I just watched a story online that may be of interest to you. It strongly supports the reasons, IMO, to not get the vaccines if you aren't in the high high risk category.
If you would like to watch, please FM me and I will send you the link to the news story.

Re: Official ALL THINGS FLU RELATED Thread
I am on the fence about h1n1. My dd had the regular flu shot and my ds no because they ran out.

Re: Official ALL THINGS FLU RELATED Thread
I don't think I'm going to get either flu shot, as I have never gotten them in the past, and don't want to change my behavior now.
DS is different. He is only 9 months old, and his Ped does recommend both, but I'm on the fence. Curious to hear more responses, so glad mine will BUMP this thread.
Thanks.

Re: Official ALL THINGS FLU RELATED Thread
There is a video on MSNBC right now (home page) about a 20 year old woman who died of swine flu after giving birth to a baby girl. Apparently she was sick for a month and was misdiagnosed so they refused to give her Tamiflu or anything.
I guess it just reminded me that whether or not we all decide to get vaccinated, or have our children vaccinated, we need to also do research about treatment options in case one of us/them actually contracts h1n1. There are a lot of things to read about to be informed about when to get a second opinion and what drugs to take in case it goes beyond a mild case that clears up with a week of rest.
I wish this wasn't so confusing...
