Cleaning Desks... sort of flu related

do your janitors regularly clean your desks?

im in queens public school and they NEVER clean my desks. they vaccuum and sweep but really that is it.

my students are in my room the entire day for preps and for lunch. we are not allowed to use chemicals. I have taught my students to get the spray bottle with soap and water in it and clean the tables after lunch, but my desks are GROSS!!! i try my best to clean the tables with some bleach when i get there in the AM but I have my AP who has not been happy with that and the smell, so i dont do it very often. i dont do it when the students are there, but im sorry its nasty when i clean them the paper towel is BLACK!!!

I personally don't think that this is acceptable. I dont think it should be my responsiblity to clean them, and im technically not even allowed to use chemicals. ESPECIALLY with all that is going on right now they need to be cleaned!! I had 2 kids miss a whole week of school 2 weeks ago and were hospitalized with throat infections weve had pink eye running rampid and now the flu.

do you clean the desks? do the janitors clean them? do they get cleaned at all???

I am in Queens too...Chat Icon clean the desks yeah right...They barely clean the floors everyday and never vacuum my rug. God knows what is in that thingChat Icon

I brought one of those green cleaners in this week. Sprayed each desk and handed them paper towels and had them wipe it off.

The desks are disgusting!

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon sorry but the idea of the janitors cleaning the desks is actually REALLY funny, unfortunately!

They do MINIMAL cleaning in my classroom. They empty the garbage and sweep, but they basically only sweep visible things, like if there's a crumpled paper on the floor or broken pencil.

I recently had my kids take clorox wipes (that I provided) and had them clean the tops of their desks. They got REALLY motivated to do it when I told them I had heard an average student's desk has more bacteria than a public bathroom floor! I actually really DID hear that! Chat Icon

Ugh tell me about it, I was sick on and off for the past month!!

I am not sure if we are technically "allowed" to use them either- but my feeling is- if the custodians aren't going to do it than who will?!?! So I have taken it upon myself to get the wipes and have the students each wipe down their own desk. They are middle schoolers, so I know they aren't going to stick their hands in their mouth right after

The cleaning ladies do not clean the desks. I usually clean them about once a week after school. They get so gross and I feel bad about the kids sitting at desks covered in germs.
