so yes chickens have earlobes, some breeds have more obvious lobes.
This is Daphne, the red thing on her head is called a comb, the roundish red things under her beak are called wattles, near the wattles but up a little bit you see small red marks, those are her earlobes.
Chickens with red earlobes lay brown eggs, white earlobes=white eggs this is almost 100% true in all cases but there are a few odd ball genetic things like my girls that lay blue/green eggs-they have reddish lobes but no wattles.
chickens have great hearing & excellent vision, my girls hear my car pull in the driveway even though they cant see it & start calling me.
The Sunny update-day 18
Sunny looks exhausted, I just went out to check on her & she can barely keep her eyes open. Last night I took her off the nest to get a drink, she is so skinny. I candled three of the eggs & we are looking good I think! She only has a few days to go!

What great info!!!! I never knew chickens have ears.  I love Shelby, Aubry and Priscilla. Can't wait for the next update!! Oh...DH is also thrilled to know where brown eggs come from!

DAY 20!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sunny looks completely exhausted, her comb is pale & she seems to be sleeping alot.
This morning Olivia the girl that always gets picked is inside the coop with Sunny, sitting on the roost. This is totally weird because the girls do not stay inside the coop during the day unless they are in the nests, even when the weather is terrible. I'm not sure if Olivia knows those eggs are ready to hatch or if she's truly sick of the rain.
Some of the chicken people have eggs that were set the same day as mine that are starting to pip already. As far as I can tell we don't have anything happening yet. I'm trying my hardest not to lift Sunny up because I don't want to mess up the humidity.
I will be SO bummed if this doesn't work out again.
As soon as something changes I will update, I'm off from work today, tomorrow and Sunday! Hopefully we'll have babies to play with!

Slow and steady wins the race!
I'm a little worried about Sunny. Once the babies start to hatch, will she be able to leave the nest occasionally to get food and water? It sounds like this is very hard on her. I hope she's ok!

As soon as the eggs hatch & the babies "fluff" I will move Sunny & the babies to the nursery where they will have food and water. The babies can go two days without eating or drinking because they absorb the yolk right before they hatch for nutrition in case their Momma cant find food for them right away. I have chick starter feed all ready to go for them. I hope Sunny gets a second wind when she realizes she finally got her babies, if none hatch I'm going to be so sad for her.

You won't be alone, that's for sure. There's no way to get a chick from someone else and kind of slip it in there? That's probably a stupid question, but I figure you bought the eggs, maybe you can buy the chick too.

WE HAVE PEEPING & PIPPING!!!
I just went out to check on her & sure enough I heard a peep!!!! I lifted her up, touched an egg, heard a noise & there it was the first pip through the shell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am amazed and so happy for my girl!!!!!
I'm going to wait about an hour and go out and take pics for you guys.
WOOO-HOOOOO We have live babies!!!!
