For those of you that love Sunny the chicken-the babies are 12 wks old! pics
She's broody again!!!! I ordered fertile eggs today & they will be here next week.
Sunny's determination to be a Mommy is crazy!

So Sunny's eggs arrived today, I tried to find eggs locally but no luck so this time they came from Georgia.
They are welsummer eggs the same breed we tried with last year.
here are the eggs in the package they arrived in
And here is serious Sunny with the eggs, I decided to give her all 6 this time & we'll see what happens!
Its hard to get good pics of her this time, she picked the nest that's at a weird angle.
So on June 21 we should have some babies!!!
this is Sunny's "twin" Marguerite, she was in a different nest laying her egg today
Please send to the farm for Sunny!

today is day six, I haven't taken her off the nest. As far as I can tell she's got all six eggs under there in good condition. I have not seen her outside of the nest at all.
Wednesday I will try to candle a few to see if they look good.
I will take some more pictures of her this weekend

Kelly, I find thses stories FASCINATING, so thank you so much for sharing.
I remember when I was young, we had female birds who would lay streile eggs when given the opportunity (nest box).
I'm interested to know- why did only Sunny get fertile eggs? You mentioned that her twin is also trying to lay eggs as well. Is there a "pecking order" in regards to nesting as well?

all of my girls lay eggs that are NOT fertile & since we have no rooster there is no way for that to change. I order fertile eggs for Sunny from a chicken breeder, so its almost like she's a surrogate Mommy, but she doesn't know it. She will take care of any babies she hatches as if they are her own.

I took her off the nest yesterday to get a drink & something to eat, all six eggs are in perfect condition!
So far so good!
one week down, two weeks to go!
