Done with my highlights
Okay so I highlighted my hair a couple of times. Loved it at first. But the up keep is to annoying and my hair is pretty dark so the roots look horrible pretty quickly. Last time I highlighted was 7 weeks ago. I have 2 questions when Can I go back to salon to get new color without my hair falling out and how do they start covering up the blonde?

Re: Done with my highlights
Adding color/going darker is not as damaging as lightening/going blonde. You cam go now. They will probably do a single process darker color to start covering up the highlights.

Re: Done with my highlights
Exactly what Nell said. I did what you want to do a few years back. There was no damage. Only issue is that the darker color washes out over time so the highlights will become somewhat visible again, but you can always have it dyed again.
Only other possible concern is getting a reddish / warm tone from from going dark over the highlights. This happened to me and i had to go back and have it corrected (but my hair tends to show reddish tones easily - so it could just be a personal issue i have lol). If you have a good colorist it shouldn't be an issue.

Re: Done with my highlights
I just did this recently. The upkeep was too much. I waited some time because I was lazy, though. Now, it’s dark and it was much cheaper. Also, the bleach ruined my hair. Never again.
I think I might just start doing out of the box color again.

Exactly. My hair feels like straw! I recently got 5 inches cut off cause I couldnt stand the texture. It was fun while it lasted LOL

Re: Done with my highlights
As much as I love being blonde it is SOOOO damaging. And I don't even go super light. I can't imagine how the really bleach blondes have any hair left on their head after years of it. I work with a girl who has been bleaching her hair to almost white for 20 years. She never even has a root showing- so she must go constantly for root touch ups too. She bitchess all the time how her hair is thinning out. Jeez, I wonder why?

I have no idea how the bleach blondes deal with it. They must have really thick hair or something. I have fine hair, but I have a lot of it. The hairdressers really talk you into getting highlights and the lighter hair at the base will make you look younger.
I usually get my haircuts in the US, so I don’t have to pay so much, but man, do they really try to get you to do things. I say, stick with your original color. It’s easier on the wallet, and it saves you time.
A PP said that it was fun while it lasted. And it was. But never again! The straw feeling was awful after a while. It really ruined my hair. I just keep getting it cut off and taking tons of vitamins and not using any heat on it. It’s getting better.

Done with my highlights
I like a lighter color on me, too, but, man, the upkeep is a pain. So now I just tell my stylist to go as light as possible without bleaching. In between coloring with her, I do the Clairol Root Touch-Up, just for, obviously, the roots.
I never do my whole head by myself anymore. I always miss spots and my stylist will pick up my hair and show me the patches of gray roots.

Re: Done with my highlights
Looks gorgeous! Did they add the red streaks too ? So healthy and rich looking!
Make sure you are careful what you wash with as the color will fade and your blonde will start showing through. Use a good shampoo that is safe for color, sulfate free, and don't wash every day!

Looks great! And yes, the blond starts to show through, eventually. I saw it today and I was annoyed. Luckily, I only have it on the ends now.
