Binky help "please"

DS is going to be 3 in March. He uses a binky for sleeping only. He is beginning to get an open bite from it. We have been talking with him daily about getting rid of it because he is a big boy now. Last night he decided he didn't need them anymore. We put every binky he has in a ziploc bag, drove to the church and I pretended to leave them on the church steps for a baby who really needed them. He was so excited, we called everyone and he told them what a nice thing he did and he got a ton of praise.

Fast forward to bed time. He got in bed and automatically started asking for it. I told him we didn't have any that they were all at the church. I have never seen this kid so sad and upset in my life. For over an hour he cried and begged and pleaded. Almost making himself vomit from crying so hard. He would look at me with such distraught in his eyes. I finally felt so bad that I told him I found 1 in my pocketbook. He was so happy. Thanking me, hugging me and telling me how much he loves me and needs his binky. He fell asleep within 5 minuts.

I dont know what to do. Please give me your advice

Since you already gave it back I would wait around a week and then tell him that he can't have it anymore. I know that it's awful but you just have to break it. It's 1-3 days of torture but then it's done. I think it's worse for us seeing them so heartbroken.

Can the dentist suggest any alterations you can make to the binky? Maybe cut off nipple? If he sucks on it for 5 minutes, is it really that bad?

Oh man, that's rough. If you were already into the crying an hour I probably would've just left him to cry to sleep. No matter what it will probably take a few days.

Have you tried cutting the tips off? The sucking becomes less enjoyable because it's just air. Each day or two you cut the bink shorter and shorter until there's just a nub. If he hasn't given it up by then, you tell him it's broken and let him cry a day or two.

I think YOU need to be ready more than him. He's probably not going to just give it up easily on his own, so you have to be strong for a few days.

Thanks for the advice. I just cut the tip of the nipple for nap time. Told him it is the only binky we uave left since the rest went to the church last nigjt. He is complaining about it. I told him if he didn't like it he can throw it out but it is the only one we have. Lets see how this goes

Cutting the tip didn't work with my daughter. One morning I just told her we had to leave it for the mailman so he could deliver it to other babies. We put it in a fancy box and left it in the mailbox. She never asked for it again.

If that doesn't work, you can try the "Binky Fairy" who will pick it up and leave him a present in it's place
