What I do not get is the top story at 6, 7, 8 pm etc was not this!! How is that possible? The top stories were all about the election and this was fit in like the last 5 minutes of each hour.
Have we become this numb as a nation that KIDS on a PLAYGROUND got shot at and this is what, nothing anymore?
Shame on us.
I totally agree, although I am hoping - and yeah I'm being optimistic here - that maybe that means the children are going to be okay.
But I couldn't stop thinking about them last night and this morning.
I heard the teacher and the one student have already been released from the hospital. The second student, the one who was flown out, is still in critical condition but expected to survive. Thank the Lord
Oh Thank God.
And thanks for sharing.

Have they said HOW the volunteer firefighter stopped the shooter? I'm curious if he somehow managed to tackle him to the ground or if he had a weapon on him as well.

Elementary school shooting in SC
Sadly I do think we as a society have become desensitized. Thoughts and prayers won't get us very far. I do pray the victims survive and that meaningful gun control is passed with whichever President takes the White House this election.

Here's more info on the hero who took the gunman down and also the little boy who is still in critical condition. I really can't get this out of my head all day.

This is so horrible. It's like re-living the Sandy Hook masacre. I remember crying at my desk at work that day. It's horrible to have to go through life this way, but every since Sandy Hook, even if DS has a horrible morning and I'm at the end of my rope, I always make sure to give him a big hug and kiss and tell him I love him when I drop him off at school...just in case. Isn't that horrible?? That as parents we have to think like that?? That "just in case" something were to happen to him that day, I need to make sure I tell him that day how much I love him? I should be telling him just because I feel it, not out of FEAR that something horrible like this could possibly happen to a 7 year old

Re: Elementary school shooting in SC
Both of SC US senators voted against sensible gun control measures in June. I hope they all remember this come November. People are so flucking afraid someone is coming to take their penis extenders, I mean guns, that they elect these idiots that only care about people when they are fetuses over and over again. Our kids are being killed and traumatized on a regular basis. I have the right to not be sick to my stomach everyday when I put my kid on the school bus.

You hit the nail on the head. They are all SOOOOO against abortion but once the kids are out of the womb, they are fair game to be sitting ducks to anyone nutjob with a gun. Sickening.

Heartbreaking! I pray for those parents because I don't think I could go on without my baby. He looks like such a sweet boy. Many prayers for them.
I'm so angry that yet another innocent school child has died and nothing will be done.

Re: Elementary school shooting in SC
In our country children go to school with fear and real risk of being killed. This country is not great. This is a shameful nation that has fallen from grace. We no longer can claim any high ground or pride over any other country. After Sandy Hook didn't change our thoughts of the system, it was clear nothing would. I pray for the babies lost and for the protection and safety of all of our own.

So incredibly sad that this happens time ands again and nothing changes other than that my preschooler had to do "inside fire drills". I actually read an article that the most recent school shooting in that area was just in may when a hs student was somehow accidentally shot. So just a month later and they still voted against any changes.
