I am wondering if this kid that they have in custody killed a parent and then went to the school and started shooting?
So freaking scary

I was going to write something similar. My DD just started school this year and among the many things I have to worry about - is she ok, does she miss me, is she eating enough, etc...I worry about shit like this happening. We shouldn't have to live like this.

http://www.independentmail.com/story/news/2016/09/28/possible-shooting-townville-elementary-school/91227360/

One 6-year-old is in critical condition and is in surgery at Greenville Memorial Hospital, according to Scott Stoller, Anderson County's director of emergency medical services. Another 6-year-old and a teacher are at AnMed Health Medical Center with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, Stoller said. It is not clear whether the teacher was shot or whether she was injured some other way.

Shore is responding to a death on Osborne Drive in Townville that is believed to be related to the school shooting, he said. He said the dead person is an adult at a scene about a mile and a half away from the school.

Right there with you ladies. Dd is in the elementary school for the first time for prek and I live two blocks from the school. I get nervous every time I hear sirens in the area while she's there.

Elementary school shooting in SC

Ugh this makes me so sick! Prayers for those little ones and families! I have nightmares about my twins going to school and they aren't even born yet. I don't even go to the stores or mall or movies. Costco is literally the only store I go to and I go during off hours. I am so terrified of these shootings

Re: Elementary school shooting in SC

I am also not thrilled with the security at my DD's school.
At all.
The more I think about it, the more I need to say something.

They just buzz anyone in. Without asking them what their business is there, who they are.

DH had to go drop something off that she forgot last year and he said they just buzzed him in and some old woman at the front desk area asked him what he needed once he was already inside.

He said to me, "I could have had a gun under my shirt"
Once he was in, he could have just starting shooting people.

There are no guards or anything like that.

I don't like it.

I am not sure what the solution is, but I don't think enough is being done to keep these schools safe and secure IMO

I had the same concern at our school. They added the buzzer and a camera outside but still doesn't seem sufficient for me.
The scary part is most of these shootings are teenagers, ones who probably attended that school at some point...to a little old lady at the desk they probably are the least threatening. These women are probably on the look out for what they think a deranged gun man should look like when in reality it's the kid next door...time and time again.

Ditto for us...they just buzz you in. At the high school you do have to stop at a booth manned by like 85 year old men.

But, even if there was security, the buildings are all open and unlocked at night for various organizations that use the schools, and activities, so someone with ill intent can just go in and hide out all night.

Re: Elementary school shooting in SC

I pray every morning while we wait for the bus that my 1st grader returns home safe to me. After sandy hook I'll never be the same, never think the same. If I'm rushing in the morning I'll stop myself to make sure I get to hold my DD give her kisses and I always inhale her smell as I hug her. It's so sad that we have to fear sending kids to school. This country is broken. Again law makers won't do a damn thing. I pray those little 6 year olds and teacher make a full recovery and I'll hope as I always do that this will be the last school shooting.

Elementary school shooting in SC

He's shot his dad and then went to the playground at the school and started shooting.

I can't even imagine the unbelievable panic those parents felt when they got the phone call of the shooting and rushing to the school praying their children are ok.

So even if the school had tip notch security to keep people out, it wouldn't have mattered. They are sitting targets outside like that. Anyone can come up and start shooting.
It's truly disturbing. I'm so sick over the evil that exists in this world.

So sad. I can't even. Prayers for those children. I get nervous dropping my LO off at nursery school too. I honestly just don't feel safe anymore, especially when I have him in tote. I won't go to the mall and find myself avoiding crowded places or places without an easy exit i.e. movies. :/

I honestly didnt have any idea what was going on until a friend of mine called me to make sure my DD was ok, I had just gotten DD off the bus when I got the call. Thankfully I'm in the Charleston area three hours away from there.

My heart aches for those babies and how terrified they must've been. They're saying that he shot his father and then walked to the elementary school and opened fire. I cant even begin to describe how nervous I get when DD is at school. This world makes me scared now.

Two students and one teacher shot, one student critical.
Teenager in custody, subdued by a volunteer firefighter.
Father of suspect, Jeffrey Osborne, 47, found shot dead at nearby home.
Investigators know of no motive.
...
Bullets wounded two male students ? one in the leg, another in the foot ? and a female teacher in shoulder, police said. One of the boys remained hospitalized Wednesday night in critical condition.

Skipper said investigators know of no motive.

“There is no known relationship between the suspect and the school victims,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. Investigators said they didn’t consider the shooting an act of terror and the teen was the only suspect. The sheriff’s statement also said the teen and victims all were white, so “there are no racial overtones.”

Authorities said the teen was home schooled. They wouldn’t release his name because of his age.
...
A 30-year veteran volunteer firefighter, Jamie Brock, seized the shooter within minutes on the school grounds and held him for deputies, the sheriff said. Skipper said Brock’s actions minimized the toll.

What I do not get is the top story at 6, 7, 8 pm etc was not this!! How is that possible? The top stories were all about the election and this was fit in like the last 5 minutes of each hour.

Have we become this numb as a nation that KIDS on a PLAYGROUND got shot at and this is what, nothing anymore?

Shame on us.

I totally agree, although I am hoping - and yeah I'm being optimistic here - that maybe that means the children are going to be okay.

But I couldn't stop thinking about them last night and this morning.

I heard the teacher and the one student have already been released from the hospital.
The second student, the one who was flown out, is still in critical condition but expected to survive.
Thank the Lord
