Elementary school teachers

OK I need some help. I am a teacher and we are doing an Eric Carle author study. Great I love him however each class was assigned a book to study for the month of October. that's right I couldnt even choose my own book.


I was assigned The Tiny Seed. While I love this book I usually read this n the spring before I do planting. I already did the apple lifecycle and pumpkins . Do you have any suggestons as to what I can focus on with this booK? My thought was to review plants and then focus on the 4 seasons.

Any ideas would be great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What about having your students tell stories through art work and use paintings/collage like Eric Carle does...?

You teach special ed so this could be an extrememly beneficial thing for them .... since writing is often hard for them...

they could even make a class book -- each of them could illustrate their own page of a class event that has happened or even something thematic like thanksgiving and what they are thankful for...

your strong writers could write the words on sentence strips to attach to the bottom of pages --- of you could do the writing as part of an interactive writing activity --- or even do the maurie claire thing and you write the sentences that they tell you, then cut up the sentence strips and have them put them back in order and glue them to the pages.

for me eric carle is all about the illustrations and i think that it's a great thing to focus on for special ed kids since it gives them something that they can feel strong in.

Yup, I was going to say the same thing, there's lots of info on the web on how to create art work like Eric Carle. Wow, I can't believe you're assigned a book!
