This is true. It's something that they think is going to happen sooner rather than later.

On a related topic - anyone else super intrigued by tiny houses? DH and I have been talking about it for awhile (for retirement) and we can't get enough of the damned HGTV shows about them, researching them, etc.

I mean...who knows what the future will bring...but it's fun to dream. Never thought I'd dream about a tiny house but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea!

If I were single I'd think about it, but even with just 2 people I'd feel it's too small.

When we lived in Seattle, my MIL was thinking about living with us for 6 months out of the year (and spending the other 6 months with my SIL). At the time Lowes had building plans for tiny houses in response to Hurricane Katrina. We seriously considered building her a house in our backyard. I would have been fine in some of those houses, but I would hate sleeping in a loft every night (like most of the ones I see on HGTV's show).

I could do it if I had a great outdoor space that was usable year round. I am somewhat of a minimalist.

My grandparents sold everything and lived in a motor home for almost 20 years. They traveled the country and followed the warm weather. I don't know if I could do it but they loved it up until my grandmother just wasn't well enough to continue.

We left for Florida. I love the weather here and I love being near the turquoise blue ocean, silky sand and palm trees. As with anywhere, NOWHERE is PERFECT. There are some things here that I don't care for, but my opinions of the pro's out weigh the cons.

London, also! Went last summer and fell in love. It's like a cleaner, prettier version of NYC.

San Diego seems nice. Maybe Florida- space coast where dh's family is.

I'd consider NC but not while that governor is in office.

I lived on the Space Coast for a few years, I was in Palm Bay. Chat Icon

I graduated from high school in Palm Bay FL

No way!! Ever think of going back to live down there?

Never ever ever LOL I do miss Florida but not Palm Bay. It has become so heavily ridden with crime and drugs. It's sad.

BTW, did you ever go to Makotos? My favorite Japanese food ever and I have been to many Japanese places across the US. Chat Icon

I've been reading about that too..........the "big" earthquake. It's why I would be hesitant to move to the Pacific NW even though it's my dream location.

DH and I are obsessed with tiny houses too!! I would never want it for my primary residence but I think they are AWESOME for a little vacation home for the two of us OR as a retirement place. I think it's such a cool idea. I know they are small but I think DH and I would have a blast in those tight little quarters. lol

Yeah that's the one drawback is the loft bedroom - some of them don't have that and I like those so much more. Especially once we are older...that could be annoyingly claustrophobic.

I actually didn't love that area. My DH worked for Harris which was awesome but other than that I just didn't love Brevard Cty for many reasons. We were there right after college too and being so young I felt like there was nothing to do around there. We had friends down in Boyton and W. Palm and it was so much cooler down there. Had we ended up in an area like that we may not have come back to NY..............although I don't really care for the heat but you couldn't beat the housing costs down there.

ETA - That place sounds familiar but I don't think we ever ate there. Where was it located in Palm Bay? Where did you live in PB? We were in The Vinings apt complex right off of Babcock, next to Publix. Chat Icon

Makotos was in Melbourne in the same parking lot as Hooters. It was the only happening place in Mel-boring.

I lived all over Palm Bay, primarily off Palm Bay Road and then US 1. I met my husband there and we lived there until we moved to Texas. He is from NY and went to college at Florida Tech. He found the area RIDICULOUSLY boring. LOL

Where in FL are you? We are moving there this year (Jacksonville) and having lived in NY nearly all my life I am excited but scared that I will hate it. And leaving FL wouldn't be an option, DH would kill me Chat Icon

I lived there for the first 5 years I lived in Phoenix. I prefer where I am now over Goodyear. North Phoenix. Close to everything, easy to get around, close to the mountains.

If I could move anywhere...Coronado, CA. Chat Icon We go several times a year and it's my happy place.

.....................where would you go?

I've been itching to move out of NY, not that I can right now, but I love to think about where I would want to go if I did leave.

For no good reason other than I am SO intrigued about the area I would look into the Pacific Northwest!! Seattle area or Portland, OR area. Just looks so beautiful over there and I'm okay with some rain!! Chat Icon

So where would you go?........and why. Chat Icon

My sister moved to Portland about 3 months ago. She loves it! A little too hippyish for me, but that's right up her alley. She said she doesn't miss NY at all.

Italy, Amalfi area or Taormina. Obviously unrealistic for me lol

You read my mind. Taromina is like heaven on earth for me. I love it and am dying to go back and take my DH. Positano is just a complete dream, DH and I were there for our Honeymoon and fell in love. I would move there in a heartbeat.

I cant leave LI b/c of DHs job but he can retire in 13 - 15 yrs. We are planning a move south of NY, possibly NC or VA at that time. Hopefully a small apt in Taromina or Positano will be possible too. Chat Icon
