Talk to me about Lap surgery

I am going to have one done soon. I need to know what happens as far as is it in and out procedure? Is there time for recovery? I like hearing from people who have actually had it done. I need to know experiences.

Thanks a bunch ladies!

Re: Talk to me about Lap surgery

I had it the day before thanksgiving. For me one of the worst parts was drinking the stuff to clean you out, what a miserable experience.
I was sore the evening I got home and a bit the next day ( I only used 3 of the rx pain killers , one when I got home , one to sleep and one the next day ( I might have skipped that one but wanted to get through thanksgiving )) . I had some stomach/bathroom issues the next day but I'm thinking it was a combo of the prep/anesthesia/eating to much catching up with me.
After that I took regular pain killers for the next couple of days.
I went to work that Monday to a fairly physical job and was still a bit sore, but fine. Was pretty much normal in a week.

* you might have shoulder pain from the gas they pump you with, I found a heating pad helped with this a lot.

Re: Talk to me about Lap surgery

I had it with no issues. I took off for a few days after bc you will be sore and have shoulder pain from the gas that they put in your abdomen.
How you will feel depends on
--how you usually do under general anesthesia. Everyone reacts differently.
--what you are going in for. I went in for endo/scar tissue removal along with D&C so I was pretty sore with bleeding for a few days.

Thank you both. They think the endo could be leading to implantation failure. Is that what you guys went in for? I didn't know they had gas and everything. It's in and out right?

Yup, I went for suspected endo (they found stage 2 and 3 and got rid of what they could).

I got there late morning (would have preferred earlier cause I was hungry), they preped me, I was in surgery for about an hour , then and hour or two recovery and you go home. We were home in the late afternoon.

They use gas to fill up your abdomin like a balloon so they can move around and see what's up inside you better.

I've had 2 laps for endometriosis. It wasn't a bad recovery IMO. i know people complain of gas/shoulder pain but I never experienced that. Because I am required to lift for my job, I was out of work for 2 weeks otherwise I'm sure you could go back much sooner. good luck!

Thank you all! I have to make the phone call but knowing this makes me feel better. It's supposed to aide in implantation right?

Talk to me about Lap surgery

I've had 3. The first two were your basic Lap for endo, not a bad recovery but not good results either. I took a week off after each but could have cone back after 3 days off honestly, I just didn't want to risk commuting with all the stairs, etc.

The third was with an actual endo specialist and the da vinci robot, where they removed the 4" endometrioma between my uterus and bladder. I needed a portion of my bladder removed and had a catheter for 2 weeks, but even with all that; they took out the catheter and i felt good enough to go into work that day! It's actually pretty amazing how quickly you recover.

Talk to me about Lap surgery

I had 2 lap surgeries to remove ovarian cysts. I was out of work for a week. The only problems I had was the pain from the gas. Walk around as much as you can after, it gets the gas moving through your body and it breaks down. Also, being more upright than laying down flat helped with the pain from the gas. I think it took a couple of days for the gas pain to go away.

Even though I was prescribed pain meds for post surgery, I didn't need them at all.

Good luck!!!
