holy sh!t, mind your own business people. Let it go.

OP should have just have this thread deleted . The picture of this handy man's creation from Craigslist seems dangerous to some of us.

Agreed, I really truly feel for the op and the child and imsorry but This is not a safe option. From the outside it looks cute, but really it's a coffin with small windows. This needs more ventilation.

HOLY SH!T, are you kidding me with this? That is uncalled for and BEYOND an inappropriate thing to say.

Stop perpetuating this. If you are truly that concerned and its not that you just like to hear yourself talk at this point bc you've made your point over and over and over and over......then why don't you be decent about it and kindly PM her in private instead of accusing a really really really good Mom of putting her daughter in a coffin on a message board. You are vile.

The op should just edit the post and take out the pic. The story didn't really need a picture to begin with. To post a pic as such and then expect no commentary just won't ever happen on the internet.

I disagree, this is not nothing, that last comment was not nothing, and this is one time I am more than willing to go to bat for the OP. This is just truly abhorrent behavior and if no one else is going to call them on it, then I am.

I'm sure she's a good mom and has good intentions.....but I still have the right to post what I would like to say on a public forum. I believe you are the one posting over and over and over...and your language is filthy and vile! In fact I usually don't even bother responding to people with such dirty mouth. I take them less seriously. Just saying.

Leave this poor woman alone. She did not ask opinions on what she built but about what she paid. Unless you have walked in her shoes which I'm sure 99% of you have not, do not judge. You have no idea what it entails to take care of and to keep a child with special needs safe. What seems odd or unsafe for parents of "typical children" is common place for special needs parents. She is doing what is best for her and her family and I am sure she doing what she feels is safe for her child.

I think once it's painted, I will look beautiful and will most likely give them all a well deserved good night's sleep.

Re: Ripped off by handyman

It really is sad that women just want to make others feel bad. Don't you think if she was trying to harm her child she would have not paid the 600 or so dollars and just let the chips fall as they may! I am so sad for the OP - I am sure it makes her feel great to hear that she is "suffocating" her child or putting her child in a "coffin". Way to support a mom in need! Who cares what you all think? Do YOU live with this child? There are MANY things that I am sure YOU all do that OTHERS roll their eyes at. NO ONE is perfect and EVERYONE on here I am sure does the best job they can as a parent. Being a parent is hard. There is that saying that opinions are like a$$holes...everyone has one!

I agree. I don't think people are trying to be mean or catty. I googled AS and sleeping and what I saw was mesh tents and crib like structures. Not a wooden box. If its not dangerous, great. It does look really cute. However I know as a parent I would feel horrible if I didn't say something and a child got hurt as a result.

There are appropriate ways to express concern, both regarding tone and how publicly you express it.

There's also a point at which you either say "I know as much or more than she does about what she's doing, and I feel compelled to speak," versus "I have a gut feeling, based on nothing that this woman is harming her child, and I am too lazy to do anything to verify it, but I will speak anyway, because I don't care."

take notice to the last few weeks, almost every page has a drama thread containing 5000 plus views. Those with the biggest mouths are the ones writing the nastiest quick responses and jumping off leaving those to defend their posts. Always loved the " that's lif " response. Jump off then. Some of us have been here for yrs, and are friends offsite. Ya don't like it, leave. Pharmcat2000 has been on here since the beginning when my first was born. Sh went to lif events. She's not a bad person. Get to know people before quick mouthing them. Crazy to think back when we all began you couldn't curse on here or threaten a person. Times have changed for sure.

I just want to say, have my post in this thread used the nicest language....absolutely not, but Im PISSED. Im REALLY genuinely pissed, not just being snarky and dramatic and nasty for the sake of it or to perpetuate drama. Im genuinely upset for the poor original poster and it shows in my choice of language. I am completely floored that some people think it is completely appropriate to interject the way they have and say some of the things they have. Then they cowardly hide behind the "I have a right to my opinion/public message board" crap. I don't care where it is.....having the ability to say something doesn't give you the RIGHT too. Do you realize there are real people, with real feelings and real struggles on the receiving end? Even AFTER it was explained the locks were actually a safer alternative, some women found another angle to continue to express their "concerns" and are now going, fine about the locks, but now I think she'll suffocate.

With your "right" to speak comes responsibility with how you use your words. I know for a FACT not ONE of the "concerned dissenters" reached out to the OP personally to express their concern in a kind manner. NOT ONE reached out to be educated by OP before throwing their opinions around. No, instead of privately reaching out, you continue to feel that interjecting in the manner you have is the appropriate avenue.

FTR - the ends of the bed are open.......so get all your facts before telling another mother in a very difficult situation that she is both suffocating her daughter and putting her in a coffin. Thats disgusting.

Please feel free to continue to defend your right to your opinion and express it all you want. You can defend it to you are blue in the face but know that YOU ARE WRONG, INNAPPROPRIATE, OUT OF LINE and INDECENT.

That is all I am saying on this from now on. There is nothing left for me to say that I haven't already said.

You paid $660 for that? Yikes.

I'd chalk it up to lesson learned. I'd never hire a handyman of Craigslist unless he's a legit tax paying BBB business.

By responding to all the comments you guys are making this thread way longer than it needs to be. Stop responding and it will drop down the lust and go away.

Clearly the op has not responded so if she's not I don't see the need for others to defend her because its truly just making this thread worse.

The op is doing what is best for her child end of story now lets all let this post die by stop posting on it.

She actually did respond in regards to the original post and assured us that her daughter isnt in harms way, I took that as this type of bed is necessary. It was very direct and classy.

I don't understand understand why it keeps getting questioned. I also agree defending her is just making this thread worse.

I guess that's what happens when you question an Original. I didn't see no one going to the another posters defense when she was being questioned about her child with very serious accusations, but such was LIW and is LIF.

I am not understanding your last paragraph? Are you talking about xylindra s post? If so I don't understand the comparison but I must not be reading this correctly.

Yes I was.

I will take a stab at your question but really don't want to go back and forth on an unrelated thread. The reason one would defend this thread is bc she has a handicapped daughter and the reason for the construction of the bed is for safety purposes and she explains that. I know what she is saying is factual bc I am a social worker, in the field and I have a sibling that is handicapped and I know what fits for a regular child isn't always the same fit for a handicapped child. In x's case, she has a child that can be equated to the average child and situation like mine or yours and one should wonder or be concerned if a child know sexual positions at 5. I don't know why her child does but in the experiences that I've seen or read with x, I can assure that her daughter is most likely safe as well. There are always other indicators or factors that go into jumping the gun and calling parents good/ bad parents. Sometimes some people can't see behind a computer screen and a bunch of writing.

Re: Ripped off by handyman

I wasn't referring to the bed and the reason for it to have a lock. I didn't need an explanation on the OP's situation. I understand there is a reason for it and it was also explained eloquently by GoldenRod. Whether the bed is safe or needed isn't my issue at all.

I'm talking about posters being called vile and disgusting and how dare they judge a parent for making statements or asking questions about the beds safety.

To me it's the same situation as in the other thread and it's a double standard. In the kindergarten thread, posters were also questioning the safety or the acts of someone's child on this board. I just think the name calling and dramatic defense wasn't needed.

i will agree that the name calling is so out of hand. I actually think the person you are referring to in this thread typically doesn't do that. I think within the last month the posts have just gotten very nasty. I e noticed these threads aren't getting pulled as fast as they used to. Maybe that's part of the problem.

Couldn't the child's head get caught in the window spaces? What about ventilation? I would be very scared to "create" a bed for a child. All of these products need to be tested!
