It's hard.
People will tell you the kids will play together, but neither gets a chance to be the baby...

Re: 2 under 2

My boys are 25 months apart so not exactly both under 2, but pretty close.
That said.... I LOVE it. They play together all the time and are so close. Ok, they don't ALWAYS get along so well. They do fight a lot too. Right now they are 4 and 2. Took some time for them to be not only brothers, but best friends. Now as I watch them get older playing together, cuddling watching their fav shows together, etc it's the best.

Re: 2 under 2

my girls are exactly 2 years apart, and the baby is only 5 months now. so i don't have a whole lot of experience, but i will say that it has been doable so far. it helps that i am staying home with them for the year, so don't have the added stress of hauling them out to daycare every day. my biggest concern is that my 2.5 year old takes so much time an energy and attention that i worry the baby isn't getting enough one on one time from me. obviously, everything you want to do takes more work, more time, more energy when you have two little ones. but i kind of like that they're going to grow up close in age and my older DD really loves her little sister so much that it melts my heart.

best of luck. it is not easy, but like most things, it is totally worth it.

Re: 2 under 2

My girls are 14 months apart(now 6&7) and I love it. I never found it hard or stressful in any way, but I seem to be one of the few that feel that wayChat Icon My husband went back to work when DD#2 was 2 days old. I was alone with no help at all when he was working. DD#2 fit right in. My son will be 3 years older than our next baby and I wish he could have been closer.

There are days my girls fight like crazy but they are great friends. It's so fun watching them grow and learn together. They always have someone to play with. Teenage years they might get not get along so well, lol. My girls are 3 and 4 years older than DS. They were great little helpers but I still prefer the closer age gap.

I'm with you! My boys are 22 months apart and I absolutely LOVE it! They are now almost 4 and 2. They are BEST friends. They love each other so much. As you said, they definitely fight hard sometimes. But they are inseparable. We have another little one coming in May, who will be about 29 months younger than my 2 year old. Can't wait!!

Re: 2 under 2

Mine are 22 months apart. My DD will be 2 in Jan and DS will be 4 in March. At this age, I love it. They are best buds and watching them interact is the best thing ever.
I won't lie though, it was ROUGH in the beginning. I was consumed with guilt about almost everything...for the fact that my pregnancy caused DS to wean from BF, the fact that I was going to turn his whole life upside down by bringing a new baby home, for having to still take care of DS and not being able to focus all my energy on the baby (and vice versa). I felt like someone was always inevitably being neglected. It took a few months for me to get into a groove but I wouldn't change it for anything now. One big plus side to them being so close in age was that they both napped at the same time so I got about 2 hours of child-free time during the day, which was awesome while it lasted!

I was a 2 under 1 mom, boys are 10.5 months apart. It was very difficult in the beginning. My oldest really didn't get to be a baby but now at 4&3, they are best friends

My girls are 21 months apart and it was hard now it's great but they are 3 and 18 months old. The beginning was rough Id say once my youngest was 8 months old it became much easier.

Re: 2 under 2

very hard! my boys are 20 months apart and while it is getting better (they are 4 and 2 now) they still fight hard but at the same point don't want to be without each other. IMO I think 2.5-3 years apart would have been better for all.

my 2 are 16 months apart and it is awesome! dd was too young to be jealous and just loves ds. There's nothing better than watching them play together. I wouldn't have it any other way!

Mine are 12 months 2 weeks apart, and this was exactly my experience as well.

They are 3.5 and 4.5 now, and are absolutely the best of friends. But it was very trying when they were younger. That said, I wouldn't change a thing. Chat Icon

Re: 2 under 2

I had two under two for a week and a half ;)

It's two babies, which is a mixed blessing. Not going to lie, it was a little crazy in my house until we got into a routine. I didn't have any jealousy issues until recently, because now that DD2 is older and mobile she's always going after DD1's stuff. It's hard... but I wouldn't trade it.

My first 2 boys are 14 months apart. There are some challenges but it is very exciting. They are the best of friends and they really have no idea what life was like before each other.

My DS and DD are 14 months apart. DD is only 2 months so it can be tough at times. I think it's easier having them close though. DS is too young to know to be jealous. He loves the baby and he doesn't give kisses to anyone but her. It's definitely busy and some days are very hard especially bc dd has reflux. But I am loving having them so close and wouldn't change it for the world!

Re: 2 under 2

My boys are 19 months apart. I found it was much easier than I thought it would be at first. I think it got harder once DS #2 could walk. Now, they fight over toys non-stop because now at 4 and 2, they like the same things. That being said, they are each others best friends and they can be absolutely adorable together. And I am looking forward to being diaper-free sooner rather than later!

Re: 2 under 2

My first is 20 months older than my second and my second is 20 months older than my 3rd (all girls).

It's difficult at times- but I love it Chat Icon The older 2 (almost 4 and 2) are just starting to play together more.

Disclaimer: I was lucky to have VERY easy babies. If any of them had been colic or something, I'd probably be singing a very different tune.
