Any tricks to reduce the bruising following injections? I haven't been bruising as much during the first month of injections but then the second and third month I've been bruising pretty bad... Almost have no non black n' blue space left on both side of my love handles to inject Chat Icon

I sit down and inject slowly without pinching the skin. I have not bruised yet. Every once in a while I will get a small dot but that's it.

Re: Lovenox girls

I have been brusing lately. Usually little round b&B but i had a huge one that took 2 weeks to go away and i have a lump. That never happened to me before last pregnancy. I have been pinching the skin, Slowly inserting the needle and slow injecting straight in. I also look for areas where I cannot see a vein. Oh and I rub the area

Ice it first. Hold the skin tightly as you inject. Last time I didn't brusie on my love handles, but would bruise on my stomach. This time my love handles bruise and my stomach doesn't. So weird. Icing and holding the skin tightly usually help.

I also inject my butt (well my husband does) and that doesnt usually bruise.

I had to inject for over a year and a few times a day. I hardly bruised.

I would pinch the skin, go in at a slight angel slow and then remove. Never iced or anything. The only times I bruised is if I over thought it or someone else gave me the shots

I pinch the skin, inject slowly, and then remove. Then I continue to pinch the skin for another 30-45 seconds. This is what the nurses at my hematologists office recommended when I got a giant scary bruise the first pregnancy I was using it. Haven't had hardly a bruise since using that technique. Also try to be sure you don't inject in a spot you've used recently.

Unfortunately I never found a way to reduce bruising. My dr suggested icing area, maybe try that.

I delivered my baby 2 weeks ago and have a few boxes of unopened Lovenox if anyone wants them. I can't find a place to donate them and my dr cannot give them away. It's free for anyone interested. I know it gets costly.

Re: Lovenox girls

Spread out where you inject, give those bruised areas time to heal

I have been icing after the injection as well as before and I find that helps, although every 10 or so good ones is followed by one ugly bruise with no rhyme or reason... Strange!

Hi Ladies. I'm just over 6 weeks now and I have to start Lovenox tonight. I went for a "lesson" on how to do it and it increased my anxiety so much. The nurse didn't seem to know what she was doing, other than I inject it in my stomach. I am officially starting to freak out about this. I don't have any issues with other people taking my blood or giving me shots but I'm really scared to do it myself. Any advice?

Once you get over the first few you will be a pro dont worry. Chat Icon I have had to do it last pregnancy too and i still find myslef holding my breath everytime i have to inject. Just take your time and go slow.
Pinch the skin, inject slowly, holding the pinch till done maybe a few seconds after and your good. Sometimes it burns a bit for me after but always switch up the spots.
Good luck!!

This is me too. I'll be on injectable blood thinners for the rest of my life.

Sometimes I will go 3 weeks with no bruising, and then I'll be a walking black and blue.

I think everyone is different.

Thanks for the advice. Doing it for the first time definitely was not fun, but today was a little easier. Any advice on how to limit the burning sensation when you inject...I tried to do it as slowly as possible. I haven't bruised so that's definitely a positive, though tonight it did get a little red/rashy around the injection site. Has that happened to anyone else?
