Full of questions today... Moms with infants with tubes in ear

So DS went to the pediatrician today with DH. His recommendation is to put tubes in.
His ears just dont seem to be draining and hes on his 3rd antibiotic in 2 months.

What was your experience after tubes and how long was your DC out from daycare before you put them back in!

We have to make our appt with the ENT to further evaluate but this is his professional opinion

Thanks!

DS got tubes put in at 8 months old. He had been on antibiotics almost constantly since he was 3 months so it was time and the ENT highly recommended it. The surgery was a breeze. He was a little out of it when he woke up from anesthesia, took a long nap and was his normal self for the rest of the day. I kept him home the day after but he could have gone to daycare, he was totally fine.

The best thing I ever did for my son was put tubes in his ears. Looking back, I should have done it sooner. He went on way too many months having unnecessary back to back double ear infections. Chat Icon I was a first time mom and didn't know better than to ask for them sooner. If the ENT is willing to do them for you now, do it!!! Since DS got the tubes at 12 months, he has not had ONE ear infection and he is 4. The only reason he kept getting sick is because his ears were never draining. The tubes took care of that and we've never looked back. The procedure itself is short, maybe 5-10 minutes and by that afternoon my DS was fine. I was home with him since it was the summer but he could have gone to school the next day. Good luck!

ETA: Just saw your other post about daycare and DS always getting sick. The tubes will help alleviate a lot of the ear infections your DS is experiencing because it will help the fluid drain. I say go for it, especially if you like the social aspect of daycare and see him flourishing in only 2 months.

DS had tubes at 2 years old and he is doing amazing. No ear infections in the past 6 months and he is talking up a storm... if doc recommends it do it, it will change your child's life for the better

ear infections hurt!!

DS might need them as well but, they are waiting to see how he does between now and the end of the year. He had numerous ear infections this summer (from teething).

One of his best friends at daycare got them right around his first birthday. He went back to daycare the next day I believe (at most it was 2 days after since his parents had taken off so much time for him being sick) and he's barely been sick since.

This pretty much is what happened with DS. The tubes were a miracle for us- I was so happy to get him off of constant antibiotics!

Not only was DD always getting sick but so was I and DH! She had 6 ear infections within 8 months. She had tubes placed at 10months old. So far, so good! I don't remember keeping her home except for the day of surgery.

By far the best choice we have made yet for our dd. She had them put in at 16 months old. She had numerous ear infections and the fluid was not draining on its own witch was causing a decent amount of hearing loss.
The surgery was quick and had little to no recovery time. She was already running around the house a half hour after we got home.
Her speech picked up a month after the procedure and she has not had any issues with her ears since. She will be 3 in 2 weeks.
