Starting finger foods

My pediatrician said I should start finger foods around 7 mos., but I just realized we have no 7 month appt., so I can't ask all my questions unless I call them!

What did you give first? How?
What's the deal with those puffs foods? Are those a good snack option?

Not sure if it is relevant, but DD has no teeth yet. And she is generally resistant to eating. Purées have been war, except for a few select favorites.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Starting finger foods

We tried puffs, broken in half, as first finger foods. She doesn't need teeth for them, as they dissolve. Just put a few in front of her and see what she does. Don't push it. If she's not ready, try again in another week.

Starting finger foods

I tried anything soft.

There are no hard set rules. Feedign your child is a very fluid thing. no two are the same so anything is just a general guidline.

My DS wasn't a huge fan of puffs so we jsut did cheerios..cheaper too.

At 7 months I just did puffs and cheerios. At first I broke them in half and tried to put them in the back side of her mouth. Within a day or two of starting each she was feeding herself whole ones no problem.

At 8 months I started other soft foods like banana, steamed carrots or peas, toast, and sweet potatoes.

We've been using puffs for a long time now. They are good because they melt. Also good first table foods are banana and avocado because they are easily mashed with the gums.
