Starting Finger Foods - Looking for Tips
DS is 8m old. He's been having puffs & cheerios for about a week and has seemed to master them. I want to start trying finger foods over the holiday break.
I'm planning to try cut up noodles, pieces of sweet potato, maybe some ground turkey. Any tips or advice? Should I give him finger foods after his purees so he's not starving and having a meltdown? Or should I give him the finger foods first so he's hungry and more motivated to eat? I should probably add he loves to eat so this may not be an issue Thanks!

I say just give it a whirl and see how it goes. DD first finger food was a cut up chicken cutlet. I had one leftover and randomly decided to let her try it for dinner. She did great with it and it was pretty much all finger foods from there. She's always been a good eater though.

Re: Starting Finger Foods - Looking for Tips
My Ds just turned 8 months and we are starting finger foods as well. I am starting with pancakes, cheese, french toast, bread, turkey etc and working my way up. I want him to really get use to the different textures. Are you planning to wait a few days in between new foods or just go for it? My ped reccommends waiting a few days in between like with the baby food but i didn't do it with my first with finger foods so i'm not sure.

We are starting now too. DD has been doing puffs for about 2 weeks and loves them. I figured bananas, peas, and carrots will be good since they're things she's had already. The ped also suggested adding yogurt and meat at 8 months. He has never given me instructions about waiting so I don't know what I'll do there. I figured yogurt would be the next new food but we're having meatloaf for dinner which could also be a good finger food. In a way I don't really see the point of waiting since many finger foods I'd like her to try have a lot of new ingredients for DD anyway.

Thanks for the ideas! DS has started yogurt and meats (jarred) already so I don't think I'll be doing the 3 day wait rule unless it's a completely new food.
