Spinoff to my quitting post...POLL

DH has this belief that women have an easier time working for men rather than another woman...

I have worked for both.

Do you feel there is a difference? Who do you think are easier to work for? Men or women?

Edited to add - I am talking about a BOSS, not just generally

The last female boss i had was a real hard a$$, but she has no idea how to run a buisness...so it goes hand in hand i think

i think it really depends on the personallity of both the employee and boss. i have worked for both and clashed w/ some and got along great w/ others (both genders). flame away but sometimes i think female employees can get away w/ a lot more w/ a male as a superior.

Re: Spinoff to my quitting post...POLL

For me I say no difference...because I've worked for both men and women and one woman boss I actually liked better than any other man I worked for.

And, I was completely surprised because I thought it would be HARD working for a woman...

I've worked for both men and women and I will take a man any day over a woman. Men can be jerks at times but, when a woman gets bi***y, that's a whole other story.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

In my experience it has been much much easier to work for men. Women can be insensitive and ultra-competitive with women who work for them......

Re: Spinoff to my quitting post...POLL

I've worked for both and both had their downfalls. I only worked for a man for 9 months...and he really wasn't too bad to work for. But the women...they got on my nerves all the time.

Re: Spinoff to my quitting post...POLL

well- i've worked for both- and I have to say- i work with women now- & I really like it- but it took me a while to get to this point.

I'll say it once and I'll say it again- the reason why we like working w/ men better is the following:

1) men hold most "power positions" - therefore we have more experience and therefore "comfort" working under men.
2) because most men hold "power positions" when women take these types of jobs- their only frame of reference is to act like a man- which actually makes women hate working for women, b/c they are working w. men.

I think if we all put our expectations on hold and realized that working for a woman will have differences- and learn what those differences are- we'd be OK.

I just find it v. sad that the women on here wouldn't try to understand this- after all, I wouldn't want my daughter walking into a situation w/ these types of stereotypes nor would I want MY employees to hold such stereotypes against ME.
