Re: Spinoff to my quitting post...POLL
up until a year ago i would have hands down said men are easier to work for - having worked for both i totally did not prefer working for a woman. but i currently work for a woman and i am NEVER leaving her!! if she were to leave the company i would quit and work cleaning her house for her. i enjoy coming to work everyday and she treats me better than anyone i have ever worked for.
so i vote equal. if you work for an azz they come in both genders.

Re: Spinoff to my quitting post...POLL
I have had better experiences reporting to men. However, the people who have helped me most in my career, in terms of mentoring have been women. It's definitely a double edged sword. On one side you have the camaraderie of "woman power" then you have the catty grudge holding biotch on the other side.
As a female manager, I definitely see both sides. The women who report to me definitely have more of an edge to them than the men. But there are also those men, that CAN NOT STAND that they have to report to me. It's a struggle and will be for a long time. It's so unfortunate.

Tricia, we are both in the same situation. I work for a woman and I have in the past and I have only had one instance where it was bad. My boss is a strong high executive at the firm and well respected and known for her smarts and know how. She treats everyone the same and that's why she is a success.
I would go anywhere for her.
Having said that, it took a while to land a spot where the chemistry is right. I don't think it's a man woman thing. I worked for a man a few years ago and had a similar relationship. This one is even better.
I told her in my interview that I can do the job just like anyone else who does what I do, but it's the chemistry that makes it award winning.
I wanted a relationship with my boss that I could grow and flourish in and I got it. She will advocate for me. The person in her role before was also a woman and her assistant and I are friends and she says the same thing about her former boss. My friend is also currently working for a woman and is having a similar good experience.
I guess what I'm saying is that it's about chemistry. Man or woman.

I just find it v. sad that the women on here wouldn't try to understand this- after all, I wouldn't want my daughter walking into a situation w/ these types of stereotypes nor would I want MY employees to hold such stereotypes against ME.
I think that things will change over time - but for me - the women that I have worked for were all older - now late 40's to mid 50's and I just think that that generation had something to prove, and they tend to be more difficult to work for, because they are still in that mode. I would like to think that I will be a much different type of manager than they were, as will most of my female colleagues.... I also know that I dont have a problem working for/with women who are closer to my age (i.e. in the same generation as me).

I hate to say it, but men! I think it does depend on personalities, industry etc. and so with anything else you can't generalize. But of the many bosses I've had, I just have an easier time with the men. The women tend to be easily threatened rather than mentoring which is unfortunate. I also just have had less BS with men.

Women always feel like they have more to prove. Men are more easy going.
