BTDT-If you rocked your LO to sleep..do you now regret it?

DS, 7mths, has to be rocked to sleep. Ive tried putting him in the crib and he screamed and cried his head off. He normally falls asleep while BF and then I transfer him to the crib. His ped said I will soon regret this and only get him use to always having me put him to sleep and she said he needs to learn to soothe himself and put himself to sleep, I just cant take him screaming Chat Icon Anyones LO need to be rocked/BF to sleep and now as a toddler is able to sleep on their own? Am I going to regret this? Chat Icon

We rocked DD to sleep too and I was told I was going to regret it. She was a colicky baby though and nothing worked. My ped told me to CIO and that didn't work either - she would get angrier and angrier and would not stop crying. There were definitely times when I regretted rocking her to sleep and not sucking it up, but at 2 I don't rock her anymore and she doesn't even ask unless she's sick and just lies down and goes to sleep.

The advice my mom gave me when I was nearly out of my mind with the whole rocking DD to sleep thing was that she would stop when she was ready.

NOT.
AT.
ALL!!

I miss so much rocking her to sleep. Our glider turns and rocks. So many tights I've slept holding her to my chest. Especially when she was congested or sick.

Oh how I miss that warm weight on me.

I also slept with her and I miss that too.

She stopped wanting to be held to sleep around 15m or so. I used to rock her while listening to Beatles music. She loved to hear "When I'm 64" so we'd play it over and over. Took about 2 and a half before she'd drop off. Then she just didn't want to anymore. Oh I miss those days. Boring as it was.

She stopped sleeping with us around 20m or so. She refuses to go into our room to sleep no matter what. She used to let us take her in our room when she was sick but even that stopped around 3. She won't do anything but jump on our bed! LOL

At 3 she wouldnt let us pick her up or hold her, no WAY I could rock her to sleep.

Do I regret it? NO WAY I MISS IT!

ETA: at 4 she leans up against me under my arm while we sit on the couch. Chat Icon I take what I can get.. she lives to lean her head on me. I love it! She cuddles up close *sigh* Chat Icon

I rocked DD1 to sleep. She coudn't be transferred unless she was out cold. She broke that habit and started a new habit of needing a bottle to fall back asleep. She broke that habit and now one of us has to lay down with her until she falls asleep. She also in our bed every single night.

DS is 2.5 and I still rock him but only until he's drowsy, not totally asleep. I don't regret it one bit and will be so sad the day he doesn't want me to anymore, which I am sure will come way too soon. That's our special time together and I'm going to miss it when it's over. They are little for such a short time, if you don't mind doing it then don't let your ped make you feel bad!

At 21 mos i still rock her, well I guess it's not really rocking. I hold her in the glider and she sucks her Paci and falls asleep in 10 mins. I love it. I work all day so I only see her for a couple hours. Its nice to hold her in my arms after a bath. She's so relaxed and sweet during this time. I guess this will stop when she's done with the crib.

Also she sleeps 11-12 hours so if this is what it takes I have no problem doing it.

Stil rocking at 18 months and I LOVE it! Chat Icon She sleeps fine once she goes into her crib (glitches here and there, but that's most babies anyway). I love having her against me like that to end her day!

Re: BTDT-If you rocked your LO to sleep..do you now regret it?

I have to rock my one twin in the rock n play to get her to sleep. Not for long overnight since she goes down easier but in the day. She is 8 weeks old so still little. Ive been letting her stir a bit during the day to get herself to sleep. sometimes it works and sometimes not. She will stay asleep if she falls asleep while im holding her but will wake when i put her down. I dont mind holding her a bit but I know I need to break the cycle or Ill regret it.

ETA, being twins I cant always rock one and get everything done I need to do incl tend to the other.

I have to either rub/pat her back or butt to get her to sleep. Honestly I love it. She's 7 months too and I wonder how much longer she'll need/want me to do it. I'll miss it...

I did and regretted it when he was 1 yo. I had to wean him from that habit because it was taking much longer for him to fall aleep in my arms and he could never fall asleep without mommy. In retrospect though I probably still would have rocked because I got in the habit from soothing him when he was teething and sick a lot during the winter. I wouldn't have changed that. Just be aware that it could form a habit that you may eventually need to break! I was able to use a method that worked and after a few weeks he was able to fall asleep on his own.

I still rock my 9 month old. Sometimes she will fall asleep just sitting on my lap but sometimes I just rock her. She will only be a baby for a short time and neither my husband or I mind it. Do what you feel comfortable with. My ped said I am to do what I feel comfortable with.

NO! They will only let you do that for so long, one day, it will be the last night you rock them to sleep and you won't even know it! Enjoy it while you can, they are only this little once!

This is so encouraging! Thank you! DD is 17 months & I still rock her. Sometimes I wish I could just put her in because it would make life a lot easier but I guess I have to remember that it won't last forever & I'm sure I'll miss it

Absolutely not! DD had to be rocked to sleep. At the time, I didn't think it was a good idea. And bedtime would take more than an hour, which killed me. But now, at 17 months, she wants to go right in her crib and barely snuggles with me. I miss the days of rocking her. So I say enjoy it while it lasts.

I don't rock my 6-month-old DD, and I've always been thrilled that she can get herself to sleep without being rocked. That said, she is not a cuddler at all, and I am kind of sad about that. If that's what your DD needs, enjoy it while you can.

Re: BTDT-If you rocked your LO to sleep..do you now regret it?

DD1 never. She was THE best. I could put her down awake and she'd fall asleep ASAP or just chill out quietly until she fell asleep. DD2 needs more coddling. I rocked her (and I mean ROCKED her for a LONG time b4 I could put her down) for about 3 months. She's 7 months now and I will rock her for like 1-2 mins and put her down. She will most likely start whining so I just rub her back for another 1-2 mins then leave the room. I love rocking/cudding, but don't want to do it all night long (like I had to when she was a newborn).

That said, I think DD1 is/was such a good sleeper bc she has a "lovey" (her blankie) and she sucks her fingers. DD2 doesn't really have anything like that. She'll sometimes take a pacifier to fall asleep but nothing consistent. I keep trying to push potential "lovies" on her but she won't have it. lol.

I rocked DD to sleep and do not regret it one bit. We still "AHlax" (relax) on the couch in the same spot every night with a sippy of milk and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. DD is an excellent sleeper and does not give us any problems self-soothing.

Re: BTDT-If you rocked your LO to sleep..do you now regret it?

My DS #1 I rocked until he turned 18 mos. He was then in bed with us for awhile until he decided on his own that he wanted to be in his own room (when he was bout 2.5). Now I sit on the edge of his bed until he falls asleep. DS #2 is 2 and I still rock him but only until he's drowsy, not totally asleep.

I also don't regret it one bit and will be so sad the day he doesn't want me to anymore, which I am sure will come way too soon. I work FT and after missing so much of their day I consider this our special time together and I am also going to miss it when it's over.

DD is 19 months...i used to rock her to sleep and now I fall asleep with her and then sneak out to join DH. She is going to grow up too fast and I know her wanting me this close isn't going to last so i am taking what i can get when i can get it.

Not one bit!! DS was a colic baby and I held him until he was 6 months old, sleeping, awake, whatever, he wanted to be in my arms.

He is 2 and I still have to lay down with him in our bed for him to fall asleep and I LOVE every minute of it.

I work FT and this is our time together. We have our routine and I love laying there having small conversations with him, and listening to him talk about random things and having him say 'nite nite momma - love you' Chat Icon

The best is when he takes my hand and tells me its time to go 'nee nee na na momma' and walks me to bed Chat Icon

Obviously I don't believe in CIO at any age. I don't see the need, it goes so fast. Enjoy it
